With the sanctions being upheld

I’d say it has become overwhelmingly likely that BO will be the coach next year.
Am I reading this situation wrong? I don’t think the job would be as appealing as it should be (again) and I don’t see Sterk wanting to make a hire now. Thoughts?

I think it’s probably first and last a money thing.
But, with Sterk on rocky ground, he may be hitching his wagon to Odom’s success next year and guaranteeing his own firing if it doesn’t happen.

Odom was coming back regardless.
Losing to Arkansas is not going to affect it either.

I would be surprised if that decision is 1) made and 2) known.
Everything was up in the air.
We have one piece of data today we didn’t have before with the bowl ban being upheld. That may have cemented a decision. But I would guess the decision would have to at least factor that in.
Sterk is in a dangerous position. We could average 35-40k attendance next year in FB and have a shell of a team.
We could average 8k in basketball attendance, miss the tournament and warm up Cuonzo’s seat.
With his troubles with big money guys, he may not survive 2019. He definitely won’t survive 2020 if things continue like they’re looking.
And this is all why you don’t settle for hires. Hiring Odom and Anderson were the two worst hires that could’ve been made. And they may torpedo the athletic department for 15 years.

Aren't the recruiting restrictions about as light as they get with regards to the actual penalties?
If so, I'd say if someone was willing to come here those restrictions aren't going to dissuade them.

Recruiting restrictions dont mean shite. No scholarship for kickers and punters, no walk on promotions. It's not like Mizzou is ever deep with 85 contributors. Half the team doesnt see the field every year.
All it means is that Mizzou can't reach on 1 or 2 low 3 or 2 star recruits.

Money and the lack thereof now ensures another year for BO. The loss of 8-9 million and his cheap contract prevents him from being fired no matter the arky game. Honestly, I cant blame the team if they lose after this kick in the balls.

I’ll blame the team for being mentally weak the whole year and not compound that blame if it simply continues on Friday.

We were going to get screwed no matter what. The only way we were not going to get royally screwed is if MU would have won the East and got a New Years Day bowl. If that would have happened there would have been a ton of media exposure and the NCAA would not want to answer any questions. But now with our record who cares.

Another squandered opportunity by Odom.

Well, they DO “mean shite” it’s not only the reduction in scholarships but it also limits when we can contact recruits, limits visits etc.

Here is my explanation...the kids that Mizzou has spent their resources on will sign during the early signing period. Then Mizzou like every other school "fills out the class."
Mizzou is not going to be spending resources trying to flip 4 or 5 star impact players like Bama, Georgia, OSU etc. So really it's about getting kids who are leftover that weren't the top of the list kids. So that's why the impact is minimal.

Those types have also produced Cale Garrett, Niko Hea, Tyler Badie etc
Again though, it’s not just the last handful of guys in a class. You’re at a disadvantage recruiting your top targets as well as you have 7 less weeks to contact than than other schools. Including limited visits etc

But, since the ruling was upheld, doesn't that mean that the sanctions only still affect 2019/2020, which would be this year only as signing day is Feb 2020. Can't bleed over to next year which would be 2020/2021.
The fact that they answered the appeal this season should mean the sanctions stay in this season or am I wrong?

frick it. Schwack Odom and Sterk at the same time. Go find an AD candidate that has a coach in his back pocket, pay them both to dig out and move on from this. It is certainly working out for Baylor.

Recruiting sanctions will start next year

Why next year when they originally were 2019/2020? Why does the date change?

While I would dearly love to see Arkansas win a football game against someone that isn't a FCS team I don't think that you have to worry too much about us.
