What was the last loss as bad as last night?

Don't give me tourney games because those were at least tourney caliber games.

I honestly can't remember off the top of my head.

Potentially worst team in the conference.

At home.

Has that EVER happened? I'm sure it has but for the life of me, I don't remember it happening on our own home court.

I don't know about conference games, but Sam Houston St. was my first thought.

Fitting, because last night reminded me a lot of a Quin Snyder coached team.

Has to be an FCS school loss.

Norfolk St was pretty bad.

But our conference play in general was pretty bad last year with far better players. I'm not sure there's an upside coming.

Norfolk State was a tourney team and was on a neutral court. I don't know if I'd call that a worse loss even with as bad as it was.

The thing is, that question can't be answered until the season is over and we know Georgia's full slate of results. I know that sounds crazy but the SEC as a hoops league this year is soooo bad that even UGA has a chance to be middle of the pack. They don't have any good wins other than us, but they also don't have any losses that are as horrible as some other teams in this league do (South Carolina lost at home to SC-Upstate, Auburn lost at home to Northwestern State, A&M lost at home to North Texas, Ole Miss lost at home to Mercer, LSU lost at home to Rhode Island, etc). There's no question this will be a bad loss for us in the end. It is however too early to tell if it was a Sam Houston State level loss or worst team in the conference type loss.

Fair enough. I was just trying to rack my brain on one that could have been worse. The fact it was at home and the fact that UGA apparently just is not that good left me unable to recall one. Who knows. Maybe UGA turns out to be respectable this year.

The Quin era, though depressing to reflect on, at least gives hope for our Dance prospects. In 2000 and 2001 Quin took Mizzou teams that lost at home to Coppin State and Winthrop respectively on to the Dance. The 2004 Quin team that lost at home to Belmont still was on the NCAA tourney bubble going into its final regular season game and wound have made it had the David Padgett shot not happened. So there's plenty precedent.

The main problem we face now is that because the league as a whole is so bad, our margin for error is much smaller than it was in the Big 12. Georgia was just one of a half dozen or so SEC teams who suck so bad they can nuke your RPI. Does our team have the focus and toughness over a long season to avoid any *more* losses to those sorts of league teams? Nobody knows including Haith. But they'd better because we won't sniff the Dance otherwise
