Weren't his kids in high school at the time? I seem to recall that being a big anchor three years ago.

I don't think he would be a good fit for Missouri.

No he doesn't. One thing is, if he is leading a charge to change leagues, then he is searching for change. Within his own program or outside. Thats just the way I read into it.

I know Indiana has a great history, but its still a hard place to win at. Overall, just on total wins they are right with Arkansas. National Titles puts them a rung above the Hogs, but I think there is a bit of misconception about their program. My opinion of course.

That program is located too close to Kentucky, Louisville, and other Big Ten programs to achieve year in and year out results like it once did. Again, just my opinion. I am basically saying that Indiana isn't near as appealing as it once was.

And yet the fan base's expectations are stuck in the late 70s/early 80s.

A Kentucky fan over on the Rant is claiming to hear word that Marshall is heading to Indiana, with Crean coming to Mizzou. Just a rumor, but a logical one.

I could understand Crean wanting to get away from a fan base with ridiculous expectations, just like I could see Baylor's coach running from the mess that is Baylor athletics. How's life Rhodes? hahahaha.

Sure sounds like he is more the open to offers.

quote:

Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall. Marshall addressed his future following the Shockers' victorious tournament win in St. Louis. "Well, I'm flattered," Marshall said. "It's very humbling to hear that, but - and I don't know. I really don't have a crystal ball. I don't know how all that's going to play out. I could easily retire at Wichita State, if they will have me." Marshall continued to talk about Mizzou and other potential opportunities in his post-game comments. "The nice thing about having success and doing it the right way with quality young people is when you have opportunities, if you are - if you want to listen - and we do - then we see how that goes," he said. "But right now we're in a great place. We're in a great place. It's a win-win."

I guess my questions are.

1. Exactly how close/far were MU/Marshall last go around?

2. Would MU drop 4-5 mil, if indeed they are serious about landing him?

We asked his agent if he was interested.
His agent said no. That was as far as they got

He obviously is looking for some kind of change. I doubt the competitive recruiting have to win meat grinder at IU will appeal to him. There are things about the Mizzou job that may very well attract him. But is Sterk willing to spend that kind of money? Plus Sterk seems to be putting a premium on P5 experience

Alden and Marshall met. Marshall turned down the job after taking the offer home.

I don't think we are even seriously pursuing him this time. Our window closed, financially and logistically.

No. Our offer then was sub $4 and he's gotten a raise since then. We'd now have to go to $5M probably.

Tru. So you're saying we won't? I can see that since it would tend to drag all of the other coaching staff salaries up. Then again if we are after a P5 coach we are looking north of 3 mil

I don't think Gregg is worth $5M and my gut says our administration isn't sure he is.

That's Self/K/Pitino money.

OK I guess I pulled up old data last night... I showed him at 3.3 mil now. .... So I thought 4-4.25 with incentives might work.

However I agree. If it does take 5 mil to move him... It's doubtful he would land here,

Crean would be nothing short of a solid hire.

Martin... Rent a coach for 3 years

Drew- Could be an interesting fit

Romar- Hell no.

If anything, I feel more comfortable knowing the person in charge has made great head basketball coaching hires in the past. Seems like we're trending towards a relatively exciting announcement in the coming month, regardless of who it is.

Sterk's basketball coaching hires really aren't that great. Tony Bennett was great, but that's really the only one.

I don't think we'd do 5 mil either. I would only pay that for Self (who really wanted this job goddammit).

let's see
Drew makes 2.8M
Archie Miller makes 1M
Musselman makes 0.5M
Cronin 2.2 with hefty buyout - never happen
Randy Bennett - cheap but he aint leavin CA (would be a great hire)
crean makes 3.2M
Marshall makes 3.3M

My top 3 is Drew, Musselman, and Miller.
throw in Marshall if he'll go for 4.
Musselman could be the real value hire. I wonder if we are even contacting him
