I believe the defense is unbelievably frustrated but I don't think they have given up. What Odom is trying to do is very, very difficult, and will take time. He seems to be taking an Amoeba approach where he uses different aspects of different schemes to keep his defense from being predictable.

DL:

Gap responsibility 1st and foremost. When you lineup, you can attack the OL from the left, right or middle. Each one is a gap. If you have "A" gap responsibility, you defeat your OL in the "A" gap only. DL's are no longer allowed to choose how they attack the offensive lineman, they only attack their gap.

This should limit run plays because every gap should be accounted for by a D lineman, LB or Safety. But it's difficult because every play is a different alignment and responsibility. Which is why we see the defense looking at the sideline for so long between plays. It gets even more difficult when frustration sets in. The more they play this system, the more they will learn to just "play" and not have to think so much.

That's why young HC's usually suck unless you're Tom Herman. The "amoeba" approach never works unless you have dudes. Find something, get good at it, and use it as an IDENTITY. We have no identity on defense.

Then they just flat out suck.

There is no attacking. A lot of standing and looking.

I'm not saying I disagree, I'm just saying it appears that's what he's trying to do. At Memphis he didn't have a "set scheme" either.

I think it's a mistake to assume he has a plan.

What game have you been watching if you don't think that the defense stinks? They are playing against an team with no offense and they are making them look like "The Greatest Show on Turf"

Kentucky's offense is fine. Their defense was supposed to suck.

OK, screw it, no more positive spin. Odom needs to go, there is no excuse for fricking up a program. This was not a rebuild year, it was a HC retirement.

Bring in Strong, get back to recruiting Texas. Strong won't give a shite that Odom got 1 year.
