Really liked Downing's game. Dude never had the greatest talent in the world but just keeps putting his head down and hitting people.

Bolton stepping up. He's been solid all year but thought he kicked it up another notch. In one of the other threads, some concern was discussed about the QB running rampant. Not hugely concerned with that as we adjust to life without the All American LB.

If JJ is ever put on special teams again, that coach should be fired. I would literally rather have Jordan Elliott returning punts.

I think UF may be a tougher game than UGA, though the former is at home and the latter on the road. Either way, it's nice to be on top the division but it's gonna be tough to end there. Those are the only 2 games that should be close.

Nance and Scott both had big blocks downfield on a couple of the TD. Nance on Badies screen. Scott on Downings run.

I thought the LBs played very well. Safeties well...nevermind. if I had 1 wish, we really need a DE that can actually bend the edge and get pressure. Fromm and Trask will pick us apart without some pressure.

Our DE position is incredibly weak unfortunately. We just don’t have any talent there. Williams was also playing banged up last night.

Putting JJ back there to return punts was absolutely laughable. You could see that coming from a mile away

That was a 35-14 game after the 3rd quarter. Letting OM score 14 in the 4th was disappointing to me. Rich Rod took Walters to the woodshed the last 15 minutes of the game.

Defense was getting tired at that point. Plumlee is just an outright star and Corral is pretty good too.

That team will be making some noise soon.

Ok here's the question. Did we recruit better DE talent or was Kuligowski a DE guru.

No, but going back to the last Pinkel years we seem to have to dismiss the best young DE almost every year.

Well, we sent several of them to the NFL so the talent was definitely better than what we have now.

Close wins! I will be happy with that.

Nah. Walters peed down both legs in the second half. He repeatedly vacated the middle of the field allowing chain moving completions on the seams. He left Bledsoe all alone on their best WR....all game. Moore had 36 receptions coming into the game. The next closest guy had 8. THere was zero doubt who the 1st read was going to be on any given play and they left the 3rd best cover option on him.

We won the game but that won't work vs UF and UGA.

When all is said and done, Mizzou still played better defense against them than Bama and all their 4-5 * players. 45 minutes of good defense, but somebody is complaining about 15 minutes of bad defense.

If you don't have an issue with the defense allowing 266 yds and 3 TDs in the second half, that's your ignorance. OM doesn't have a defense that can produce stops to give it's offense a chance. Florida and Georgia do.

You would have been the first one here pissing and moaning about needing 4* players if OM got back in the game and won.

I don't like to criticize individual players that are busting their arse and are much better athletes than I ever was. But Turner looks the part at DE, but just never has an impact. Is he just not developing?

He doesn't have the first step that Ray, Ealy, Aldon, and Harris had. If he did, he would be winning more on 3rd and long. Haley also has them playing a little different technique as well. They spend a lot of time covering the OT instead of playing a wide 9 technique. The net result is commanding the LOS B Gap to B Gap.

The guys I mentioned were all in state guys. In the last 5 instate classes MU landed Howard who got booted, Williams who hasn't lived up to his rating, Graves couldn't stay eligible anywhere, Perkins is a stud for OU. It's been slim pickings in state in terms of edge rushers.

So does that mean his priority is maintaining gap integrity instead of getting to the qb?

Yes. On 3rd and long the ends play several different techniques and stunt/exchange with the LB and boundary safeties that are blitzing.

That's doesn't mean they aren't having an impact on the QB.
They are moving the QB off his spots and getting in throwing windows. The defense has a completion % allowed of 48.9% and 20 hurries.

Got it. Do you think this change in philosophy is because of a lack of the explosive first step, or would Haley do this even with Michael Sam and Aldon Smith on the roster?

It’s because of games like Navy and Auburn where the DE was constantly out of position.

This is what his lines do. Even when he had guys like Drake Nevis, Barkevious Mingo, and Sam Montgomery they didn't have stupid sack #s. But I don't think anyone would argue about the results. LSU's worst rushing defense allowed 152 YPG while he was the coach.
