allowing the players to gag it up in midweek, was concerning to say the least. Faded to end the season.
With so many really good young coaches out there in midmajors/middlemajors , its time to start new.
This conference goes 10-12 deep.
First guy i call is the Coach From Michigan. Has SEC ties, has done a hell of a job at Michigan and can recruit and coach.
Guy from Dallas Baptist is another to look at.
Some really good coaches who have sec ties and could help build a program into the top half of SEC annually and get MU to regionals and possibly further, yearly.

Mizzou only really looses 1 key player off this years roster in McClain, and he may come back. Matter said he was projected around the 5th round I think. This past freshman class could lead a really good team next year.
Should be a good situation for any coach.

They lose their starting 2B who was decent. Hit lead off. He was a senior. After that, the only impact players were juniors, of which McClain and our closer Williams may go. Williams may actually be drafted ahead of McClain. But yes, this past freshman class was really good. The next class, depending on who goes pro and who goes the college route could be really good too, especially with the kid out of Alton.

As for TJ, I don't dislike the guy as a coach, though I do think he has some flaws. But if you look closer at his record at Mizzou, you have 7 years where he had Scherzer/Crowe and he made 6 tournaments I think and won at a .640 clip or something. Then you have the other 14 years where he barely won at just over a .500 clip and only made 2 tournaments. Just not sure how good of a coach he is if he doesn't have a dominating starter to carry him.

Yea I think that 7 year stretch was more about having 1 of the top assistants in the country bringing in several elite players.

So if TJ and Rhoades met this weekend like was said they would, and if a decision to keep TJ was made, don't you think they would have come out right away and announced that TJ is staying and they're working out an extension, in order to keep things calm not just on the team but with recruiting? Seems to me, at the least, Rhoades is giving thoughts of a new coach a long, hard look.

I think this is very likely. No knowledge. But from a PR perspective, if he's staying, you announce it. This answers the question, lets staff keep recruiting, keeps things in place. No news, in this case, seems big to me.

Say "thanks for your service and awesome freshman class", and part ways. Gives new coach a good base to work with.

Reggie McClain will almost certainly get enough money to leave and Breckin Williams definitely will. Also, both Ryan Howard and Josh Lester are draft eligible as well. Could lose one or both of them.
That being said, I love the freshman class. Credit to TJ for landing those guys and not going JUCO heavy the last couple of years when he has been coaching for an extension. If he is done here, you have to respect the man for continuing to recruit frosh and leaving the next guy with a solid core.

Seems like there is never news about an extension until it is already a done deal. I don't remember ever hearing anything in the news about working on extensions. Seems like I either hear that an extension has been agreed upon or coach is fired.

Yeah, but how many times were those announcements made while the other contract was still in force. TJ is technically without a contract at all right now I imagine.

I think Howard is only a sophomore. I could be wrong though. Had he redshirted?
Lester is definitely eligible but I just don't see a .250 hitter getting drafted high enough to justify going, though he will obviously get squat if drafted as a senior.

No doubt. And I respect him for what he's done for the last 20+ years. I just personally think it's time for new blood to get us over the next hump.

Lester was a 30th round pick out of high school so I wonder where he will go next week. Ryan Howard is a draft eligible sophomore unfortunately (turns 21 before the draft).

Did not know that about Howard. The other one we didn't mention is Rash. TJ never used him or developed him, but he was a 2nd round pick out of high school. Will be interesting to see if he gives up on Mizzou and goes back into the draft. I'd imagine some team would take a flyer on him and figure they can develop him.

It's time to part ways with TJ. His tenure at MU has been average at best, and outside of the Scherzer/Crow years, below average. The midweek losses to mid majors and losing something like 15 of their last 18 games was pathetic. Time to go a new direction.

Well, the good news is that one of our commits is a highly thought of recruit. The bad news is that on of our commits is a highly thought of recruit.
Bryant Hudson, the 6'8" lefty from Alton, is now being discussed as a potential 1st round supplemental pick. No way he comes to Mizzou if that's the case.

The first chink in Rhoades' armor. Not the biggest deal in the world, but him extending TJ makes me raise an eye brow when it comes time to deal with a major sport. In the meantime, more of the same for 3 more years.
