I take it you didn’t watch Lock in 2015. Carta-Samuels, Huepel, Dooley have done a great job developing Lock.

Nah, that’s bullshite. Lock was garbage in ‘15. Odom gets at least some credit for his development if we are being fair here.

Also, we have no idea what kind of QBs he has recruited because they haven’t gotten to play. Personally I think Wilson is super talented and will be a stud. Just hope it’s here.

Oh please Lock shouldn't have played in 15.

Odom has had 3 years to find his replacement and he is where?

OK. I'll give Odom credit for developing Lock. Pinkel recruited him and was developing him too before Mauk went off the rails.

Will you give Pinkel credit for knowing his buisness when it comes to quarterbacks? The only time I can recall Pinkel getting caught without a quality heir apparent in the pipeline was when he had to start Corbin Berkstresser.

I think this is another area where Odom has missed the mark.

Pinkel's idea of grooming the heir apparent with a series a half (or game) was brilliant. Not only grooming the successor with meaningful, pressure-filled game snaps, but providing a change of pace for opposing defenses. It can also build a fire under the incumbent.

Odom should be doing similarly (especially if Wilson has the tools), yet isn't. Big mistake IMO.

You could also add the year that Suh broke Gabbert in half as a year Pinkel didn’t have a quality replacement. Gabbert was playing on 1 leg with a walkon as his backup.

Until a QB that’s not Lock plays real snaps there’s no way to know if Odom has recruited a replacement. There are 4 scholarship QB that will return next season. Maybe 1 of them is good or will be developed into a good QB. Bazelak is a high 3 star QB and might be good. Or we might see a grad transfer QB.

Do you think Odom should be playing Wilson a series a game or half if he has the tools?

I’m not even sure that Wilson is the top backup. So far it looks like that would be Powell.

I would like to see what Wilson can do. Kid has some serious wheels on him.

From the very little I have seen from the backups I think Powell is the better QB. Wilson Hs the athleticism, Powell the arm talent.

I'll repharase Alex... Did you like/agree with how Pinkel groomed the heir apparent QB? Secondarily, would you currently be giving the deemed No. 2 QB a series a game/half ala Pinkel?

If both get a fair shot, and I suspect they will, Wilson will prove the superior player.

I don’t know that a series or 2 per game really helps develop a QB better. I would like to see the data on it. Pinkel did it and it worked well for him, but most coaches don’t go that route.

Lock said that Powell was the smartest qb on the team including himself.

5-9 plays in a game half of which are running plays, is insignificant in a QBs development. Getting 50-60 reps/day with the #1s during the spring, summer workouts, and preseason camp is where a QB is made.

That’s what I’m getting at. I’m sure Powell is great in the meeting room, on the practice field etc. Coaches routinely fall for this fool’s gold.

Physically, he’s not close to Wilson.

I’d assume we’ll go through fall camp with no starter being named and both will play extensively vs Wyoming.

Barry Odom is entering his 4th recruiting cycle, let's look at how his classes stack up to the rest of the conference.

247 Sports

2016 13th out of 14 teams (43rd overall)
2017 13th out of 14 teams (43rd overall)
2018 13th out of 14 teams (43rd overall)
2019 currently 14th out of 14 teams (52nd overall)

If Kentucky Football beats Mizzou again this season, it will be the 4th time in a row Kentucky has beaten Mizzou and recruited a higher rated class the following year.

Kentucky Football

When James Franklin left everyone knew the next guy was for sure Maty Mauk.

When Maty Mauk left, everyone knew for sure the guy was Drew Lock.

When Drew Lock leaves, who's that guy you can say for sure is the guy?

This program seems to have no direction post Pinkel.

You need to get off of the negative attitude towards Missouri and the head coach. I see Barry Odom will be going bowling and get Missouri to keep going bowling and making slow progress to sustain around 8 wins a year. To me that is very good and Barry had to go through all of the negative that hurt Missouri for a while. Also fans of Missouri were wanted Barry Odom fired a year ago. He did not get a chance to make the adjustments and coaching changes and with all that negative stuff going on at that time as well. I am not surprise Barry Odom was able to handled all that negative and come out winning and making Missouri football good again. Not yet great but is making progress. The fans is what killing Missouri chance to succeed. Fans are like that of the Nebraska players. They do not care for Barry Odom and wanted him fired and hire a splashy coach. The attitude among Missouri fans is what killing the football program. Got to fix that and go to the game! That makes a huge difference getting better recruits and give Missouri a chance to win games.
