Calm down. He seems to be backing it down to where it was last season.

I think most of the problems centered around people "trying to get theirs" instead of playing gap control/specific assignments.....discipline, discipline, discipline.....we need a shite load of it.

I think you nailed it.

The D looks undisciplined for the most part.

That starts and ends with coaching.

I completely agree. The problem is he didn't create that culture on D he inherited it. He might be better off starting all freshmen and just sucking for a couple of seasons until he get's the D he wants

This is BO's team... This is BO's Defense.

The Defense was more then functional before BO and his grand "defensive vision" took over.

I doubt Sterk gives him more then this year, to prove he can produce a productive, well disciplined team, that can win....... Real improvement isn't too much to expect.

Like everyone else agrees..... We'll know more after this weeks game.

Still think BO would have done better learning how to coach at Memphis first.

Perkins is back. He's a solid tackler. Much needed.

Here's my 2cts:

LBs
Biesel did nothing, Garrett did better
Burkett did a little more than Biesel, Hall did better
Prewitt was at worst, okay

DBs horrible
Acy got ate up
Cheadle did well, but he's so little. that will be exploited
Hilton was in when MSU got there first four TD plays
Hines was there for 3 of 4. Complete whiff at tackling on the 3rd and 24, 16yrd pass that went for 80yrd TD.

DL - the brightest spot on D, still could be better
Beckner, Brandon and Palmore were productive. Utsey, no so much.

Agree with that. The LBs were just kind of there. Not surprising as in my view we don't have any standout players at that position. We need them to just be assignment sound and make the tackles they are in position to make. Best we can hope for.

Acy, Hilton, Hines were just dreadful. Sherrills wasn't much better. Walters said the only two DBs to receive a positive grade were Cheadle and Sparks. This group just simply has to be infinitely better if we are going to do anything. Much like the LBs, at the very least they have to be in position and make tackles when they have a chance. These are the two things they absolutely didn't do on Saturday.

Good news, if you are into that sort of thing, is once we stopped calling complicated coverages we started to shut them down as we should.

Bad news, if we can't run more than one coverage effectively next week then I doubt Bentley is going to have much trouble picking it apart.

We have to win this game. We need some positive momentum in the worst way. Hopefully defense shores up all the blown assignments at least, and the offense has a big day. It's all doable. Just have to do it

I wonder what they are going to do about Acy. A cardboard cutout of him would have made more plays.

Hilton and Hines didn't do much better.

We may be screwed

Acy played better as a freshman. Acy has to play better or Sparks will get a shot at Acy's spot.

Hines wouldn't have played had Perkins been healthy.

Play a bunch of cover 2 and hope Garrett doesn't get beat like a hard on making a 12 yd drop.

Nothing you can do. Acy has to play. He was the best CB all camp. Besides that, who are you going to throw out there?

He just has to play better. That's it

implement the TCU stuff on the back end of the defense.

I don't understand why Hilton can't read the #2 WR and play accordingly. The TE going vertical was his guy the entire way and he broke on an underneath route. That is selfish play.

They need to put Hilton back on offense. I think he's an asset on offense. He's a liability on defense.

Hilton is 1 of a number of veterans that I wouldn't be suprised to see transfer after the season.
Ulmer, Perkins and maybe Gillespie will have passed him on the depth chart.

He probably had the best hands of all the skill players in 2015 and he couldn't get on the field because he got tossed around in the run game or whiffed his block completely. I don't think he cracks the two deep in Hill's room.

I'm already feeling like a lot of BO's ceiling will be determined by if he has the balls to replace Cross
