I’m curious as to who PowerMizzou has on the DC hotboard. I think our hotboard should look something like this; Jim Leonhard (Illini Analyst), Greg Gasparato (new Tulane DC), Phil Parker (Iowa DC), Tony Gibson (NC State DC).

Also, what’s y’all’s opinion on DJ durkin (Former A&M DC)

NCstate has actually fielded a ton of good defenses that perform well even though they’re often in the field a lot because their offenses are often utter dog shite.

That might be an interesting choice.

I think it would be great to screw Baker's Alma Mater and steal their new DC.

You could say the same about iowas defense. Their offense is horrendous but their defense is stellar year in and year out.

Parker is old as shite and Big 10 defensive numbers are inflated yearly due to style of play. Not saying he’s not good, but I wouldn’t go there.

I really want someone younger. Leohnard, Symons, Gasparato or Marve would be a good list

Sure, Parker is a great DC, but he’s 60-years old and has been at Iowa for 24 years - there’s about a 1% chance he leaves for another DC job while Ferentz is still there.

I agree with going younger but you know he’s not gonna dip out for another job. He’s not climbing as evidence by his career choices. He’s a solid block if you can pry him from Iowa. Big if, and hes not my first choice but he’s got to be on the list if your top 3/4 choices don’t take it. You have to at least contact him.

I want an aggressive caller for DC, otherwise we are wasting the carryover talent on defense because that is what they have adapted to.
That is why if the right person is found within, I'm fine with it.

South Dakota State HC is an interesting one, but he lacks a power of 5 experience. Never know but lack of experience in the SEC and recruiting are going to be a something to look at it very hard and long before taking unless he is just too good to pass up as a coach.

Ok, so who is your number 1 target if any coach from the big 10 is off limits.

Are you getting fussy because I don’t like the idea of someone from the big 10? Weird if so.

I have stated I trust Drink to make a good move. I don’t have a favorite. Whoever he tabs-I’ll be all for it.

I’d be surprised if that move is someone from a conference with zero offense.

No, i just think its crazy to just rule out every coach from the big 10. I trust in Drink too but as fans, we all have wishes. We will all support who he hires but if we have 2 mil a year to offer, we basically have free reign on who we could get. There is very few assistant coaches making more than that.

It would be bad to offer that much to any but a few very sought after assistants. There was added value in the consistency of keeping Baker which won't be there with any other coach.
Ideally an aggressive DC with ties to existing recruiting grounds, who fits the style well of what we are doing.
Part of why I'm fine hiring within is that we should be able to keep all assistants on the defense. A new person might want their own choice of DL or LB coaches, or might mesh poorly with ones we have.

Problem is are we looking solely to max what we have this year in complimenting the offense or looking to the future?

Or do we get the most aggressive attacking D guy to max not only next season but beyond?

Tough question to decide.

The issue is if the rumor about baker bring peoples with him to LSU, the new DC will already have to either bring in a safeties coach or a DL coach depending on their background so i think if we go make a splash hire, we will have some remaining staff and some new. Even if we hire within, we potentially have to fill 2 position roles.
