I say 40 percent he leaves, 60 percent he stays.

Reasons he will stay:

1) He's marrying a Missouri woman.
2) His entire family has laid roots in Missouri.
3) He's old.
4) He's built a program and doesn't have to fear being fired.
5) Recently he may have talked the school into renovating the south endzone.
6) The Big 10 is in decline, the population is declining in the north and with it recruits.
7) With a win this Saturday he'll get pretty much whatever he wants until retirement at Mizzou.
8) Pinkel loves Mauk. Mauk's parents moved from Ohio to Springfield, MO just to watch Mauk play at Mizzou under Pinkel. Mauk does have tremendous upside.

Reasons he would leave for Michigan:

1) Opportunity for big raise a few years before retirement
2) He's from Ohio and grew up watching the Michigan/Ohio St. rivalry
3) Big pay raise
4) Big pay raise
5) Big pay raise

I think they've most certainly contacted him. They have a "mystery candidate" whose name will not be released until after this weekend.

SEC Championship Game?

I'm not sure what Michigan would gain from hiring him, nor do I see what he would gain from leaving.

He's 62 years old, he has a program built by him, with players that buy in.

I don't think he wants or needs to start over at this point in his career. The move to the SEC was probably stressful enough for him.

As far as Michigan goes they need someone who can fix that program and who will stay the long haul to make sure it happens. Pinkel is probably 5 years from retirement. I just don't think that's a successful pairing for either GP or Michigan.

Why would he leave now? They contacted him last time too. If he was going to bounce then would have been the time.

Let me clarify...I don't think he'll leave.

However, I could see him telling our AD that the program is in good hands with either Steck or Henson.

Don't forget that he's from Ohio and grew up watching the Ohio St./Michigan rivalry.

This isn't a stretch.

I think it is.

Could be a play for more cash though. That's the end game for most of these "rumors" anyway.

Where are you hearing this from? I haven't seen it anywhere but Hogville. I'd say that's a less than reliable source.

There is no chance of that. Pinkel is retiring at Mizzou

Where are you getting this from? Pinkel's not going anywhere.

Rumors are heating up that Pinkel may be Michigan's "mystery candidate" that they will announce after this weekend.

Why are they waiting until after this weekend?

Are they waiting until after conference championship games have been played?

Plus, they're specifically looking for a coach who has a history of developing star quarterbacks. They want to get back to a school known for star QBs...

Pinkel stayed with Mauk all season at times when he honestly should've considered putting in a backup like he's always done before. I'm not arguing that Mauk shouldn't be playing now. However, against Georgia and a few other times a backup should've been given a chance.

This year was different. Pinkel was absolutely loyal to his Ohio recruit and never once allowed a backup the opportunity to make a splash.

Could this be because Pinkel has been eyeing a job in the Big 10? Was he sending the Big 10 recruits the message that he is loyal to Big 10 recruits?

Hmmmmmm?

Yes it is. A massive one.

4 of your 5 reasons for him leaving are nowhere near accurate. They wouldn't offer him enough that we couldn't match.

Or maybe its because he knew Mauks shoulder was barking, and he also appreciated the fact that he was fighting though it.

Or maybe Mauk is a mind frick and replacing him with Printz would have ruined his psyche.

Or maybe Printz isn't very good.

I would take any of these somewhat logical answers over your Big 10 subliminal message conspiracy theory.

tOSU is the ONLY program GP would consider at this point. He is an Ohio-big rusty guy, but that was a long time ago, and tOSU is the only program you could go to that wouldn't require a major rebuilding effort, something GP doesn't have that much time for.

The only other real possibilities would be Wash-Don-James-ington-U or maybe Florida, assuming he might want to retire in the sunshine state, and we think he's already turned down one WashU overture. From what I've read I think most or all of his grandkids live in and go to school in Mo, too.

He is already a well paid coach, I can only think of a couple of other higher paid coaches who don't have CC trophies at their current jobs, Sumlin and Spurrior, and he's not far behind them in $$'s. Even the more realistic possibilities of other jobs are all still remote. If you want Pinkel to retire at Mizzou, you can relax.

Why leave? He has a solid program running just the way he likes at Mizzou. He is in zero danger of getting fired any time soon unless he takes a page out of the Bobby Petrino playbook. His family is settled in. Mizzou is a nice place to retire. He makes enough money he won't need to stand in line at the unemployment office any time soon. Pinkel is a smart guy, he knows he has it good right now.

I know how old he is, not sure if you're saying he's old or young, but he seems pretty fit for his age. I still don't see him wanting to coach to 80 or even 70. I seriously doubt he wants to be another JoPa, wondering around the field, having people point him in the right direction and no clue whats happening right under his nose.

I'm saying due to his age hes not going any where. If he leaves it will take him 2-5 years to build a program, and by the time he were to see that program striving, he'll be near 70.
