Pinkel's First Four Seasons:

Over all record: 22-25

Conference Record (Big 12): 12-20

Bowl Record: 0-1 (Lost 14-27 to Arkansas in the Independence Bowl)

Record against ranked teams: 1-11

Record vs. Top Rivals (KU, OU, and Neb): 3-8

Barry Odom's Four Seasons (not the band):

Over all record: 25-25

Conference Record (SEC): 13-19

Bowl Record: 0-2

Record against ranked teams: 1-9

Record vs. Top Rivals (SC & Arky?): 5-3

I keep seeing post online that BO should not have been fired because a 5-7 or 6-6 season is the standard at Mizzou. I think BO's firing shows that Pinkel went on to set a new standard at Mizzou. This is a good thing.

Discuss.

Difference was the recruiting in Pinkel's first four years was lightyears ahead of Odoms.

An eventual turn around wasn't that far fetched.

Correct. The program expectations are vastly different now than when Pinkel was here.

Our admin and GP literally stated this when we joined the SEC in 2011.

While the university was a shite show (see what I did there) the football program was in better shape when Odom took over compared to when Pinkel took over. They had been bowl eligible 2 times in the 5 years that Smith was there. The 2005 season was make or break for Gary and he only had 2 losing season in a 10 year span after 2004.

I think if Mizzou would have beaten Wyoming and Vandy then BO would still be the coach. Hell, if would have just beaten Vandy his job would have probably been safe.

I don't think Pinkel ever had a 5 game collapse like that. The whole season was either bad, decent, or great (for Mizzou standards). No roller coasters like this season. Sad thing was I was really high on BO after rebounding from 1-5 in 2017, improving to 8-4 in 2018, and landing Kelly Bryant. I'm glad to see the AD isn't putting up with mediocrity with a team this talented.

Hopefully the next hire reflects the Pinkel standard that was set in the second half of his tenure at Mizzou.

As has been eluded to in another thread, this had less to do with record and more to do with how he handled a situation with the President of the university.

Has that been proven or is it rumor and innuendo?

It’s a very specific rumor.

I have heard rumors of a divided locker room, including coaching staff, that would not give me any sort of confidence that the people managing side of the job was being maintained.

Don't get me wrong, shitting the bed after homecoming didn't help his case. My point is when you are already staring down a $10+ million loss due to the bowl ban, you don't bite off another $8 million buying out the current staff unless the shite has really hit the fan.

Sounds like it did.

Another reason I posted this thread is because a previous thread stated that Mizzou has a losing mentality. With other factors involved I'm glad the powers that be didn't say, "well, he got us to 6-6 so give him another season."

I certainly don't think the fan base excepts a losing culture at Mizzou. The stands this year were evidence of that.

Some day it'll all come out.

Until then hoping for bigger things. I actually think the recruiting restrictions buys the next coach an extra year no matter what happens next season. The 2020 season will be season "zero" for that guy.

Pinkel had a better eye for talent that's for damn sure. I understand developing them and all but he got 3* recruits that would have been graded 5* at the end of their football career.

According to what?

LOL. Pinkel was every bit as unpopular as Odom was at that point. Maybe more so.

No, of course.

It’s also a really weird rumor and after actually listening to the guy explain it in the Instagram story he seems weirdly uninformed for someone that would have the access to the AD required to know something like that

Exactly KCMO and Pinkel had to pick up the Woody, Stull, Smith mess.

Bottom line, Pinkel was a great field General in the game, Barry was not.

Almost every opposing coach out coached Barry.

Pinkel also had how many years as a HC at Toledo?

This was Barry's 1st HC gig.

Chase Daniel saved his job! Texas blew it by not giving him the offer. It was too late when Texas gave him an offer but Chase Daniel said I already gave Mizzou my word and it was over. Then Jeremy Macklin and some OL committed to Mizzou. Macklin flipped from Oklahoma to Mizzou. This is what gave Mizzou life from there on.
