M Porter Jr. needs a year of college ball. He would be money ahead, career wise, to stay in college another year. After a season in college he would likely be the 1 or 2 pick in the NBA draft.

J Porter definitely needs another year of college ball.

From the St. Louis newspaper; if M Porter does not hire an agent, he could renounce by May 30 and return to school next season:

Porter, four months removed from surgery, didn’t say whether he will hire an agent. College underclassmen have until April 22 to enter the draft and as long as they don’t sign with an agent can retain their eligibility if they pull out of the draft by May 30. Mizzou did not release any information about Porter’s decision.

He needs another year (or two or three) of development. It doesn't have to be in college.

If he's drafted top 10 he get's paid and whoever drafts him is taking on all the financial risk for his health and how he develops. If he would have stayed he takes all the financial risk on how he develops. Pretty straightforward decision really

There is so much $$ disparity between a 1 or 2 draft than a #10 draft..., it will be worth it long-term for him to develop another year in college.

There is a certain status of being a "1 and done" that I think some kids are unduly influenced by it.

I do agree that there are far more pre-NBA development options than there used to be.

I stand by my statement that if M Porter does not project to be #1 or #2 in this draft, he should eschew hiring an agent and return to school.

If he was my kid that is what I would advise him.

No. He shouldn’t.

If he’s top 5ish, he’ll get a guaranteed contract worth around $10M or more. So while he could earn an extra $10M by returning to play college next year, he is forfeiting almost sure money for pretend money.

I think that Mike wanted to come back to Mizzou to prove to himself and others that he was legit, but was probably told that if he came back and didn't play to his perceived potential or his back went out he could be messing up his future as a lottery pick.

I agree, however dollar signs are really attractive.

MPJ deciding to forego the draft and return to school would be absolutely moronic. People saying he needs to stay are 1) unrealistic and 2) have zero idea what they are talking about

I say that meaning no offense...

Porter would make far more money, career wise, by staying in school another year before declaring.

Doubtful. He will eventually make what he’s worth. If he doesn’t go this year, he likely starts out the earning equation down around $5M.

MPJ is gone

Don't really get why Jontay would declare as a borderline first rounder

One year closer to unrestricted free agency. One more year of earning money.

It's not official Jontay is gone. I think he's waiting for word from a team. The Porter's are not dumb, I doubt Jontay does declare if he's a borderline first rounder. I've seen him projected in the mid-teens though and if he's anywhere under 25 I bet he's gone.

Jontay would have to go D league. He would get eaten alive at he pro level today. Too soft inside and his 3 isn't always on.

I’m not the one saying MPJ could benefit from staying 2 or 3 years in college.

But you are right... I must have been hit in the head by a semi...

I have said about 300 times on this board that he is going to the NBA and to not go would be financially moronic.

I also said on this board that he needs more development but it doesn't have to be in college.

So either you think MPJ is currently at his peak as a basketball player or your reading comprehension is at a 3rd grade level. Either way I stand by my statement you have been hit in the head by a semi.

Still faulty logic.... The best place for a lottery pick to develop for success in the NBA, is in the NBA.... Would be a complete waste of time and money to go elsewhere....
