So what are wrestle backs? We had some top seeded guys lose that we really needed, are they able to get back into the championship bracket through the consolation rounds?
Some of the lower seeded guys won, but who knows how far they will be able to make it.

Ohio State 13.5 - 3 in wrestlebacks
Penn State 11.5 - still have all 7 of there entrants in championship brackets but only have 7 wrestlers
Mizzou 11 - 3 in wrestlebacks...losing Eblen hurts us.
Cornell 11 - 3 in wrestlebacks and only 9 wrestlers.
Iowa 10 - 4 in wrestlebacks...losing Telford a big blow to them.

Get 1 point per win on "Championship side". Bonus 1 point for major dec (8-14 pt win), 1.5 for Tech (15+win) and Bonus 2 for pin.
Wrestlebacks get .5 per win. same formula for bonus.
Get points for placing in top 8, which is huge.
We are still very alive. The losses (minus Eblen) weren't shocking, and England helped pick up slack by getting 2 HUGE victories.

I think I heard someone say the best you can do after ending up in the consolation bracket (wrestlebacks) is 3rd place, which makes sense, as the championship bout flows from the winners bracket. So it's a lot harder but they could still have some high place finishers from guys with losses in the first round.

Of the three that lost one was seeded 4, one was a 9, and one was unseeded.
If you lose in the first round, it means you cannot win first or second. However, if you wrestle your way back and win every other match, you will still finish 3rd.
Therefore, even though those guys lost, they still have a chance to finish well. Even the 4 seed can still win 3rd. It will just take a bunch more matches to do so.
The only good thing about having Eblen on the losing side is that maybe he can pick up a few bonus points in his extra matches. However the other seeded wrestler in his part of the bracket also lost so he actually gets to wrestle the guy he was supposed to in his next match.

I know I am a lost fool at how they decide national titles in Wrestling... but Mizzou won the dual meets tournament. In head to head match ups they beat the best teams out there. To me that makes them the best in the country.
Best of luck to them from here on out.

This week's outcome will highly influence how we look at that situation as well

The #4 seed losing was bad, but hopefully he can rebound. The 9 seed losing wasn't a shock, as his opponent was a returning All-American who didn't have enough matches to be seeded. Synon losing wasn't an upset. 7 on the Championship side is great!
3 on the wrestlbacks can get some points next round.

Guys, the other schools had guys unexpectedly lose as well. Basically, the difference with where tOSU is and where Mizzou is right now is NOT how many won but the fact that tOSU was a bonus point machine this morning.
BTW - When I went through my own little scenario simulator that is worthless but ended with us getting 114 points, it was with us getting 12 points in the morning session. We got 11 instead.
Sure I had hoped for Synon, Lavallee and Eblen to win their first match, but them losing was offset by England and Miklus winning. Also, taking a look at it, I really think those 3 guys have a really good chance at some bonus points this next session in the wrestlebacks. Remember, they're wrestling guys that also lost in the 1st session.
What we need this next session that we didn't get in the 1st session is bonus points from Waters, Houdashelt and Cox. For me, not getting them the first round from these guys was as disappointing or more so than the guys losing. We weren't going to go 10 for 10.

Exactly. I think they could carry the next session when it comes to bonus points. Mayes and Miklus were the only ones to get us bonus points last round. I don't think Miklus wins his next match. Mayes should. But Waters, Houdashelt and Cox need to step up with the bonus points this next round.

tOSU
7 of 10 advanced.
Of the 7 wins, they had 2 Falls, 1 Technical Fall and 1 Major Decision (6 1/2 bonus points).
All 3 that lost were Not Seeded.
Iowa
6 of 10 advanced.
They had 4 Major Decisions and 2 Decisions (4 bonus points).
Had a #3 and #5 lose, along with 2 Not Seeded.
#6 wrestles PSU's #11 next round, knocking someone down.
PSU
7 of 7 advanced.
3 Major Decision and 1 Technical Fall (4 1/2 bonus points).
They lost none but our guys in the wrestlebacks will be earning points while they have no one to do the same.
MU
7 of 10 advanced.
Only 1 Major Decision and 1 Fall (3 bonus points).
#4, #9 and Not Seeded lost.

Things I'm looking for this next session. Mizzou is the only school with three #1's going against Unseeded wrestlers. Big chance for those bonus points. Time for Waters, Houdashelt and Cox to step up.
Eblen, Synon and Lavallee have a fantastic opportunity to score bonus points in the wrestle backs. Each point they score is 1 point PSU can't because they only have 7 in the tourney.
PSU has at least 2 wrestlers in the championship round that wrestle hire seeds next round. They could come back to earth after this round.
tOSU seems to be the best positioned right now. Their only losses were Unseeded wrestlers.
If England, Miklus or Mellon win another match in the championship bracket, that is as good as a bonus. England already winning once (plus the pigtail) was 1 more than I had him down for.

So does everyone wrestle again tonight or only championship round?
Posted on 3/19/15 at 6:29 pm to Mizzoufan26
Ohio state wrestlers seem to be going for the throat and fighting for a team title.
Going hard after seeded opponents even late in the match.
We on the other hand seem to be playing it more cautiously

Tourneys like this are won on the backside, tOSU has not have it locked up, Mizzou is in it 4.5 back as I write this, Mayes & Eblen both hurt if they shite the bed on the backside then we are fricked.
Posted on 3/19/15 at 8:28 pm to Tackle74
And our first wrestler on the backside just eliminated himself.
Mizzou looks very uninspired. I'd say it seems like I've seen at least 5, maybe as many as 10 other teams that seem to be better.

Agree that we look flat, even the wins are coming in decisions so no bonus points, the rest of the backside better step up tonight or this is over even if Waters, Houdashelt and Cox go to the finals.

Ok, we sit in 5th, but have all but 1 wrestler still alive. What kind of chance do we have to win?
