I can read maps too. See the little municipalities in between?

Or, it could just be that you're a cantankerous know-it-all? More and more I'm picturing you like this...

Hahahaha
You really are a women, can't be wrong.
It appears that way in your map, but its not the case. The link I provided clearly shows Ladue and Kwood bordering. This is too funny. And you say we don't argue like a married couple.
I hate you so much that I'm beginning to like you.

So their zip codes border? OK. But Huntleigh Woods, Warson Woods, Glendale, etc. keep the municipalities from sharing a border.
And IRL? I'm really pretty likable!

Reedus, did your list reference number eof students on average each year that go to Mizzou, or percentage of graduating classes? It would make sense that the bigger schools would send the most kids to Mizzou, but I'd be interested n knowing what the percentages look like. For a class of 200, 20 kids would be a lot, but for a class of 800, not so much.
I didn't see that. Those were straight from the registrar's website at the University so I doubt they know the class sizes but rather only who is coming in to the University. I'd love to know the percentages as well. It's obviously not fair to compare a school with 2000 plus students to a school with 200. Really, the thing that stuck out to me was DeSmet being so high. I thought just the fact it was an all boys school, eliminating 50% of the potential enrollees, that it would be much lower.

My response to Cubbie was just having fun. I thought it was so overboard it was obvious.

No nuance allowed. You're not proud of the backwoods hoosierish perception most people have of Missouri, so you're not worthy of being a Missourian.
Shame upon you!

I will agree with you mogray that I'm not sure why this debate is still going on but to be fair the map you pulled shows zip codes, not city boundaries. I could be wrong, but I do think Warson Woods and maybe even parts of Rock Hill wedge in between. Regardless, they are a stones throw away.

On a more serious note, if kids from St. Louis are going to Mizzou there's obviously not a stigma attached to the University in the St. Louis area, so why is it so much more difficult to land recruits from the area. Same can be said about basketball.

I wish I knew. We were doing much better for a while, with getting Maclin and the Gabberts. Maybe little Gabbert deciding to transfer created a perception that Missouri kids don't get treated fairly at Mizzou? Plus, the fans were pretty hateful toward Blaine.
I think in football, a lot of it is uncertainity about the program and the stability of the coaching staff. Which will resolve one way or another soon enough.
With basketball, it's a complicated thing. I have heard that some basketball coaches in the St. Louis area do not like Haith for some things related to MHSAA.
Posted on 7/9/13 at 8:06 pm to semotruman
Geez, how can they already not like Haith? He's only been here a couple years.
Posted on 7/9/13 at 8:30 pm to reedus23
That's coming from a coach I know who thought there were better candidates, an that haith was going to get hung out to dry over the Miami stuff. He just doesn't care for haith. And apparently there was an issue with the state coaches wanting to change HS games to 2 halves, like college, because they thought it would prepare players better and Haith didn't support this. I don't know anything more than that.

Lots of kids from STL are going to MU bc it's the primary state university and STL is the states biggest city, even if there was a stigma STL would lead the state in attending MU. Regular kids get in state tuition and remain around a lot of friends.. they don't have schools in other states offering them in-state tuition and familiar faces, let alone full scholarships. Athletes have a hundred other things to weigh, and lots of schools offering the same financial package.

Listen, most of the kids that go to Mizzou are from STL because their parents can 1) afford to send them there, and 2) their children receive private Catholic school education where they benefit from smaller classrooms, more one-on-one teacher/student interaction, and little to no classroom distraction caused by students with behavioral issues.
KCMO is notoriously poor. KCKS is mostly Jayhawkers. Many kids from rural MO do attend Mizzou, but their numbers are skewed due to the large number of kids from STL.
In northeast Missouri where I'm from, you attend either Truman State or Mizzou if you get a 28 or higher on your ACT, Missouri State if you score a 23 - 27 on your ACT, and any other state school if you score anything below a 23 (Maryville, Warrensburg, etc.)
A few rich kids will attend Wash U, a few math/science kids will attend Rolla, but everyone else attends what I call the
Big Three - Mizzou, Missouri State, or Truman.
Now, in Southwest Missouri where I live now (God's Country - Missouri's paradise), kids attend either Mizzou or Missouri State, or if they perform exceptionally well, Drury University or Rolla. A few choose to attend Arkansas, but not as many as you'd think.
KC...well, if you did well in high school and your parents have a little nest egg, you may be fortunate to attend Mizzou or Missouri State. However, due to the poverty on the Missouri side of KC, most kids will be fortunate to graduate from a community college or ITT Tech. Nothing at all wrong with that. Community schools, not all but a few, offer great educational value on a budget. Many graduates go on to be productive professionals.
