I quite sure that Coach Kul didn't want to change the defense either, because then his rep would take a hit if it didn't work.

We are coming off a 5-7 season and lost a lot of talent on defense. Couple that with the regime change, there's going to be growing pains.
I'm more concerned about our motivation though. We went to LSU and looked like we didn't even want to dress out. Not to mention all of the fights we were starting.
Honestly, I think we gave Etling farrrrrrr too much respect. I would have dared that fricker to pass all. day. long. Don't understand how we let a few completed quick passes abandon a gameplan.

given that they kept picking up 9 yds running on first down how we gonna do that

Are you the same people who want to fire batting and hitting coaches when hitters and pitchers aren't performing.
I'd imagine so.

personally i think we should fire errbody, and keep firing errbody, until we start winning.
this plan is foolproof in the long term

Everybody has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth. That doesn't mean the original plan was sound though.
This Cross defense has sucked and Odom shares that just as much.
Whether the players suck. The coaches suck. The players won't listen or the coaches can't teach. It's truly irrelevant. It's overthinking the equation and understating the answer. Spaghetti logic. It doesn't matter why something does or does not work, only THAT it does or does not work. Results.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Listen to your grandfather. The old cuss knows what he's talking about.

Y'all are probably gonna flame me, but personally i don't this defense was nearly as good as people might think the past couple of years. Our offense was so historically bad that other teams didnt have to take any chances. They could keep things pretty vanilla for the most part knowing that they didnt have to score a lot to beat us. Now they are trying to learn a completely new scheme on both sides of the ball...when the new offense is clicking, the new defense will orobably tend to look much better and when the new offense is struggling and putting the defense right back on the field time and time again...the defense is probably not gonna look so great..especially against superior talent. Just my opinions of course...but i say we give this new staff and extremely young team some time to get things rolling in the right direction...

The reason I'm gonna disagree with you is because the defense kept us in games until they were worn out late in the game. No one just put it to us from start to finish. UGA did not hold back at home for a 9-6 win and Florida wanted badly to tear us apart after what we did to their homecoming the year before. I think Arkansas at the end of the year is the only team that you could say put it to us.

If Odom wants to change the defense, he can and will change the defense - it's his team. He obviously thought he had the personnel to do it. I think he also expected it would be a rough year when he did, and decided to get it out of the way. When you implement a major scheme change, you can expect a step back until they adjust. That doesn't happen overnight.
I'm as frustrated as anyone else at how pitiful they've looked at times this year. But whether it was this year or next, or later than that, this would happen. Let's just live through it.

I guess i should also state that i am clearly not happy about the defense has looked so far this year. They look somewhat lost, slow, apprehensive and out of position and poor tackling and angles because of it...whether its coaching, personnel or a combo of the two; they havent executed the new scheme terribly great yet...especially against a higher level of competition. Im just on the side of trusting Odom and giving the staff and players some time to get it right.

Here's how I respond to Odom and his new defense...
October 31st is the last day of our fiscal year. My accountant will drone on about tax brackets, deductions, write-offs and charitable donations.
I will wake up from my snooze and say "How much do I write the Mizzou for check this year?" he will answer, and I will write the damn check. Whether there are protest or a Division Championship, makes no difference "How much do I write the Mizzou check for this year?"

How do you mend fences with a man in your workplace that is pissed and doesn't want to talk to you for these reasons:
1. He feels he has put in more time and is more qualified than you to do your job.
2. He doesn't want a friendship with you, he wants your job because he wants what is best for the company and in his mind the best thing for the company is him taking your job.
3. The fact that your head boss passed him up for you to have the job he has been wanting for years.
4. IF you get promoted do you really think he is going to take that job under you when being under you is the very problem he has from the beginning? Use your freaking brain.
So please Dr. Phil what would you do if the solution the man wants is for your to give him your job? Do you change your entire coaching philosophy that landed you a big time job so that he might like you a little more, though he still will view your very existence at the Company in that job as the problem?
Seriously, sometimes I think some of you have never worked in the real world or dealt with interpersonal conflict in real life.

Right, Kul was never going to be the DC under Odom. Dave Matter said this in a chat a few weeks back, and he rarely takes a strong stance on such situations.

some time in the next couple of seasons we are going to know whether BO et al is our stinky man or if we should have tried to go for a Richt Kul thing. We don't know now. I'm still thinking these are the right guys.
