I honestly don’t know if Odom is the guy. I think we should just give him the end of this contract to make the decision. If you want a hot name at the lower level you’re probably going to have to give him a 5 year deal. If he struggles at year 3 you’ve now set a precedent to fire him then you get in the situation a lot of schools get in of having 3 head coaches on the books. I think there is low risk of giving Odom another year because Sterk was wise of only giving him a 2 year extension. If he doesn’t cut it he doesn’t and you move on. If Sterk somehow has stoops agreed to a deal right now then I’m fine with giving Odom the walking papers. There are always hot names in G5 schools. There will be at the end of this year and next year.

He's found a fair amount of diamond in the rough type players.
These are fun, but good programs 90% dont rely on these. We do. As many times as you find one, one will bit you in the arse.

His teams don't quit.
True. well, maybe not true. Our offense looked like it quit against UK and SC. And defnese quit for 2nd half against purdue.

He's also not ready, in multiple ways, to be HC at an SEC school.
Yep. He reminds me too much of matheny. Matheny should have never gone straight into a managerial role.
Here's my final sense on Odom.
Everyone with an opinion is wrong to a degree.
Those in favor of firing him are jumping the gun. He hasnt had a "bad loss" in almost 16 games. Hes been pretty consistent with the games we were expected to win or lose. Hes still young, and technically hes gotten better than better over time. You can compare his first few years to GP, and you'll notice hes ahead of GP. Were the same mbm on here firing at GP to be canned this time in his tenure?
Those who want him to stay might be a little to comfortable with the "true son" bs. Why are Missouri fans obsessed with this? He has no signature wins, except, maybe, the comeback against arky. His ceiling may never be very high, and the news about him being unlikable will hurt even more. Keeping him around for another year might penalize the program for the foreseeable future. He just hasnt done anything to say, man, I want him as our HC.
Then you have our School. What is the AD and school willing to spend? We're notorious for not being big spenders. Granted our new AD seems to step out of the comfort zone more than in the past. Im just not confident we can do better than Odom.
Im stuck in a place where I dont see Odom being all that great of a coach, and not a great ceiling. But I also dont think we can or will do better.

Employing a coach to the end of the contract is unrealistic and would scare more coaches off than just about anything else you can do. There is no way a coach can succeed on that scenario as recruiting would be non existent. Players won't sign up for a coach with less than 4 years on the contract.
No coach would want to work at a school who would force a coach into failure like that.

It’s what we did last year and it won’t make much of a difference. My sample size for that is the last 30 years of Missouri football recruiting.

The only SEC school that should be seriously concerned about it's future in football is us. We fricked up the most important higher in Mizzou football history, and now Pinkel's hard work to put this program on the map is fading away. It's depressing. We frick up this next higher, and we're on our way back to the 80's.
Mizzou gonna Mizzou. It's a vicious cycle.

we didn't do very well with the hire either

I'll wait until season's end to form an opinion. What I see, for now, is a team that is getting better but doesn't know how to win. So sabotaging themselves continues, including the coaches.
