Because of the riots in 1962 and the KKK had a rally on our campus back in 2009 because the university got rid of "From Dixie with Love"
It was a peaceful protest so the university couldn't stop them since it was on public ground. At the damn thing Ole Miss fans were booing and calling them pieces of shite the entire time. Literally no one supported them.
But alas, since we had the riots people assumed it was put on by the university. Most fans around the SEC knows it wasn't the university who put it on but they still poke fun.

I think it's unfortunate that you all quit playing Dixie. It's a piece of music/art and a damn fine one at that. Mizzou's band played the song well into the 1960's and I personally enjoy the piece very much. The rebel flags are one issue, but I think it's an overreach to ban the playing of a musical piece such as Dixie.

It wasn't the song itself the school had an issue with. The students were dumbasses and each time it got to the lyrics "His truth is marching on" they would replace those words with "The South will rise again"
The university warned the student body for a damn year not to say it or they would take it away but alas, they continued doing it.

That's kids for ya and a lesson to be learned here. Never give real power to young people because they are too immature and don't know how to handle it.

I've thought a lot about this OP. I think we're figuring things out, but we're still new. I don't think we're outsiders anymore, really, not like 2 years ago. But for me, I don't think it'll be complete until we've played everyone in football a couple of times, and settle into some rivalries. For example, playing Auburn in the seccg sort of felt like a bowl game to me. Awesome, and a great step, but very new. It'll take time to develop a conference rivalry with teams in the west that we don't play often.
That said, I couldn't be happier to be in the SEC. We won the expansion lottery, for sure. The competition and camaraderie are fantastic. And I'm looking forward to us improving in all sports, upgrading our facilities, and becoming more integrated. But, as killz said, we're weird. I hope we keep a little of our weirdness. Keep the Ruffians Ruff!!

What will be weird to me is in 30 years when I still remember talk to my sons (ages 4 and 1) about some of the great ku and Nebraska basketball/football games. They're going to have no recollection that we were ever anything other than an SEC school. I do feel like an SEC member now, but with scheduling how it is I really feel like a member of The SEC East and not The SEC as a whole, because teams like MS State and LSU haven't been on our schedule and likely won't be for some time. Like SEMO said, The SECCG very much felt like a bowl game; I had to travel 900 miles to get there even.

You had to travel 900 miles to the SEC championship game and it seemed like a bowl game. Consider this: Would you have rather traveled to exotic locations such as Lubbock, Texas or to the "little apple" Manhattan, Kansas?
