re: Is the Mizzou job that bad or was this hire in the bag from the start?

It is interesting to read some of the commentary elsewhere. One thing that stands out: We are basically giving up recruiting in St Louis for the far richer grounds, of Chicago?

Does anyone believe this works? Gates is gonna beat out Loyola and Illinois and the B1G for Chicago recruits?

We're not in Detroit.

I meant that we used to pull a lot of talent from Detroit

Yeah, but it's a different world now. I just don't see it.

I haven't posted since the news leaked out at late Friday night about gates being the man. I was hoping to calm down and find some sort of perspective. Over 48 hours later my attempt has failed.

I have 2 questions for DRF

1. How long have you been friends with the Gates family

2. What cool promos do you have planned to get fans in the stands next year.

I doubt there was any kind of real search. Gates was her guy from day one.

I could be wrong, but this is what happens when you hire an A.D for all the wrong reasons.

You end up with a family friend for a BB coach from a community College in Cleveland.

Bring on football

If there were any good coaches that wanted the Mizzou job, then that might have happened? I mean look at what Auburn and Tennesse and LSU have done so far? This is also due to lack of fans interest in basketball in a while. I know the team been bad but without fans support it makes it harder for players to do well and want to be here. Then you got recruits visiting and seeing the poor fans support at the games. Even the SEC rant fans have said Mizzou doesn't have strong fans support for their sports.

That’s online navel gazing.

Gates will recruit St. Louis. The middle men in St. Louis will have their hands out. We will either pay them or we won’t.

We should give up on STL. Either kids there will like Mizzou and staff will go after them or they wont like Mizzou and we wont chase. Not worth extra effort there for so little historical returns.
