If anyone has read my posts I normally speak about perception and how that is important moving forward.

So I am watching this game at a friends house and we are looking at this Mizzou game and no one in this house has allegiance to this school but me. The room is filled with "God they are terrible" "How does Pinkel stick with Mauk" and so on and so on.

Me being me I asked the one kid in the room what he thinks of Mizzou. His response is that on D "them boys pretty good" but that he would never go there and that they get talked about in a high negative way in recruiting circles and here is why:

1. Coaches use the mizzou made montra against us by acknowledging that Pinkel doesn't play his best players he plays his oldest
2. You won't get the true notoriety you deserve because of how the media looks at mizzou
3. And if course the discussion of no big bowl games, getting blown out in big games, and no conference championships

Now I can counter every one of those points but how do you beat perception? Especially when the first thing we see from the halftime announcers is Kannell and Galloway literally laughing at a top 25 SEC team.

I don't think you can counter.

Games like today say everything about the pecking order with Pinkel.

Being honest you can't counter none of that because those are the perceptions of most big time recruits locally and nationally and has been for awhile.

One thing this kid said and others that I have chatted with recognize what Mizzou is doing on D. It's just so many other factors that hurt us.

And games like theses kind of show that we need some better players in key positions.

Sounds like the kind of pub hound seeking, prima donna Pinkel doesn't want anyway.

To his comments... 1) Pinkel is playing a whole shite load of freshmen this year. 2) Mizzou gets plenty of notoriety with the NFL draft scouts. 3) He can be part of the solution that gets us over the top or go where he thinks his talents will be better appreciated and run the risk of getting buried on a depth chart and processed out.

Going to Missouri is a life choice decision, not a roll of the dice. Good luck to the young man.

I agree with you.

This guy obviously is looking for the shiniest place to go. He'd be great at A&M. Super rich school with lots of toys and shite, but don't win football games.

Mizzou builds success through a program, it's SUSTAINABLE, it's consistent. When you start chasing the 3 and out NFL draft type guys, you turn into a program that is only as good as it's recruiting rankings. Bad recruitment year? You suck for 2-3 years.

Plain and simple, if someone doesn't want to come to Mizzou, fine don't do it.

We'll get what we need someplace else, but it is a shame that the last few years haven't changed the perception that was there when I was in HS 20 years ago.

I think that is a very flawed assessment...

But Ok

You can't have classes ranked 20-35 year in and year out thinking that will get you a National Championship. That is a fact. It's not based off emotion or the "We Do What We Do" attitude of a coach that is paid 4 million a year who can get away with that poor excuse to the fan bases.

You need top talent to win!!! If we are we ok with Division Titles and no major bowl appearances than why do we pay our coach in the top tier of SEC coaches?

And as flawed as you want to make the system it holds true to who will win and who will be looking on the outside. And guess where Missouri has been?

We are no place for the mentally weak that would be persuaded by negative recruiting anyway.

You realize Mizzou has been a couple plays away from going to a National Championship right?

Over the last 10 years, how many teams can say that?

You act like it's not the same 5 teams that are in contention every year.

What is Beckner? What is Lock?

Dilfer has stated what Lock's upward trajectory looks like, will you not accept him because he may want to achieve the NFL dream on 3 years?

Beckner has that same potential should we have used those Scholly's on high potential 3 stars that need a year or two of development?

I guess that makes sense

No we were not. 2013 maybe but even then it's still a maybe. Remember the narrative that morning, Mizzou was a favorite in the SEC Championship game and talking heads still had to ask if Mizzou would make the championship game with a win.

Les Miles knew they had a way to back door in 2007 cause they knew Mizzou would lose to Oklahoma.

They are locals. Lock's whole family has gone to Mizzou.

These two are terrible examples.

Mizzou does not get 5 stars from out of state.

Mizzou was in the 2013 game, a couple of plays go different and Mizzou would have been in position to win that game.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Pinkel has built a consistently good program. Outside of 2012 this team is a model for building a program.

We do not have the tradition of OSU, Alabama, ND, USC, OU, etc.

To compare us to them is ridiculous. If a kid only wants to go to a team so he can get drafted, he probably isn't going to want to go anywhere but the "blue bloods".

Ok... Whiskey has me calmer, just pissed is all.

It just sucks running in my circle sometimes cause I have a nice amount of friends that played ball at other SEC schools and I run into kids that are being recruited heavy occasionally and I just hate the perception piece of it.

So why was vandy out recruiting us while James Franklin was there?

Perception can be changed. It hasn't happened here.

And as far as the original post.

What did you counter the big game argument with. I can't think of a big game we have won in our 4 years of SEC play

Depends on how you define big right...

Georgia 2013
South Carolina 2014
Texas A&M 2013
Arkansas 2014

Can be considered big games because of circumstances leading into those games.

If it's based on opponent or top 10 head to head meetings then our last "Big Game" may be Oklahoma 2010...

Franklin is a great recruiter.

Are we really going to bemoan the job Pinkel does here? Good god, guys.
