Now that I'm somewhat calmer, as I look across the confusing mediocrity of College Football, is Missouri the future for everyone?

A sloppy game where you coach in fear of players, paid with off campus money, that can move anytime they wish, is a game of little discipline, of playbooks with few pages, a game where the coach is your buddy, and on field mistakes are laughed off with meaningless coachspeak.

Saban can avoid this true, but only because of reputation. What happens when he is gone? Will the next Bama coach be able to hold the same standards? I doubt it. Jimbo can't, Dabo can't, Sark can't.

The NFL can, with players under contract. Is that the solution? One wonders how it would work. Until that time, does Missouri simply hold to the mean, while the rest of CFB evolves back to us?

There’s some truth to what you’re saying.

The upsets this year seem to be coming at a more regular pace. And it’s everywhere.

I have to think that NIL is playing some role in this.

NIL alone would not have been so bad. The transfer portal, by itself, would not have been so bad. But the two combined is a recipe for what we're seeing I think.

Honestly there needs to be a draft and salaries. CFB has fricked itself so bad this is the only way out of it.

I also look at Kansas (Painful) and I wonder, if in this new world, if the 4 and 5 star hot recruits are something to be avoided? Disruptive Prima Donnas are bad enough under contract, again, see the NFL. But uncontrolled egomaniacal teenagers with more money and less discipline? The mind boggles.

It’s an interesting point. I feel like if Mookie Cooper hadn’t gotten a few touches this last week, he might have hit the portal this week after his earlier complaining. Was this at the detriment of Luther? Dealing with that kind of distraction is happening for coaches everywhere.

It will be interesting to follow. Maybe teamwork becomes significantly more important than talent in this new paradigm because you just cant come up with a cohesive talented system (outside of UGA/Bama). Developing kids who want to play for a school into players who know their roles might do even better than it did in the old world.

I agree, as long as the owners of the franchise also start getting their share of the money. The citizens created the University.

Getting the old transfer rules back could help, too.

I feel further assured by today's results. Crappy play everywhere.

It seems the defense of the future is already here. Brought on even faster by scared shitless/clueless referees.
