Does this feel like year 2 or year 1 of the BO Era?

How did we regress so much in one offseason?

Cross's one season of exposure was apparently not enough to be able to convey the 152 different calls and associated keys in Gary Patterson's system to his players. It isn't a shite system as some would suggest but Cross clearly doesn't have the chops to teach it.

What they are doing now is terribly predictable on the back end and Garrett is a huge hole vs the arrow/seam if the dline can't get home. It does allow the second level to play faster vs the run.

I guess my point is, it shouldn't take 5 games to play your best in year two, that's a year one thing.

Maybe Cross just destroyed this defense more than we can ever know.

Barry could’ve hired a DC in the offseason. He didn’t. Our defense is squarely on him.

It feels like spring ball.... In his first year.

Did BO have authority to fire Cross in the offseason? If so that’s on BO. When MR was the AD he didn’t give BO full authority on who he hired.

He let him fire Kuligowski. I don’t see why Sterk wouldn’t have let him fire an in-name-only DC. You don’t either. You’re defending to defend.

He didn’t fire Kul.

Also not really defending BO, just asking a question. The answer to that either puts all the blame on BO or none.

He kinda did. He presented a plan to Rhoades that included not retaining Kul. If I knew that, Kul knew that.

It was common knowledge Kul and Odom didnt like each other. I'm guessing because Odom got the job in 2015.

I don’t have to like my employees.

Barry seems to have a predilection for pissing matches.

Yea Kul almost left a year earlier after BO was hired as DC. Remember Kul initially took a lesser paying job at Illinois, only to have GP bring him back.
Kul did come back, stole the defensive playbook and shared it with the rest of the conference as he was leaving.

I agree, provided you aren't dumping everything you spent the previous spring and fall camp working on at roughly the half way point for the second year in a row. Letting Cross continue to with his install was Barry's call. It didn't work.
