MU coach Eliah Drinkwitz made a call to players Sunday following the team's 62-24 loss against Southeastern Conference opponent Tennessee on Saturday at home. The Tigers are last in the FBS in rushing defense and have given up an average of 307 rushing yards per game.

Wilks survives because his buyout is the rest of his salary.

Or maybe earlier. He'll have to be paid whether here or gone. I think the first chair tuba player in Marching Mizzou would do equally well as an interim.

Hopefully this doesn’t cost us Gracial or any of the other DL commitments

A good chance to see how committed Choi and the new AD are to bringing “championships”. Something not working eat the salary and move on!

The problem with these firings, although they are deserved, is that you really run a risk screwing a recruiting class with the way early signing day is. You’re not naming a permanent replacement until after the season and you really open up your commitment list to the vultures.

With recruiting being really the only positive you have right now…if you lose that…

This thing can start pointing up pretty quickly if we can hold onto these guys and hit the portal, but it can also crumble if that doesn’t happen and be over before it starts

Or you could just go 2-9, last in D1 in defense and have guys quit on the field....right?

Or you could fire the guy, lose your best defensive recruit over it, and then absolutely nothing changes

Look, I don’t care that he was fired. No one could argue he was doing a good job, but sometimes it’s better to get the hay in the barn first. If we lose Gracial over this, and we might, then it wasn’t a good move. Period. Securing this class is way more important than anything that happens the remainder of the season

If we lose the kid we lose the kid but a D coach had to be fired but I'm curious if it was Wilks or Drink that made the call.

Also curious.

Watching the game, it looks like there’s team cohesion issues. Whether that’s within the team or between the players and some coaches or both, I don’t know. But this isn’t a good team from the team chemistry aspect.

If the team tries several things out on defense and is still horrific for the whole season there is no way a recruit is going to want to be a part of that if they have options.

Agree....sometimes it's a mirror of the coaching staff.

Completely disagree. If we fire him and still suck, which we very likely will, and that leads to us losing our best defensive recruit then there is no way that can be spun as a positive.

Again, I don’t care that he was fired. My only concern is the fallout.

Somebody had to be fired just really isn’t a good reason to lose your top D recruit

That’s not true. Bad teams get good recruits all the time. That’s how they improve

I mean, I guess it's good they're trying to hold someone accountable. I think our defensive problems go further than just our DL though. Big time.

With the way the defense is playing a D coach HAD to go or recruits will think we DGAF about winning.

Too early to start talking candidates?

Chad Staggs of Coastal Carolina is my vote.
