Mason would be great at recruiting and is a great coordinator. Best choice out there.

Mason would be a grand slam. Perfect for recruiting with St. Louis being LOADED in 2022.

ODumb is a loaded gun pointed at the face when it comes to the Zou. He’s never coming back again and for good reason.
That said. I’ll take the brightest mind we can get that’s able to both coach up and design high quality schemes.
Do not forget about the need to recruit better than 3* recruits! That is why Odom and Walters failed to get better recruits regularly. Mizzou can't keep being 13th in recruiting class every year. Drinkwitz is finally paving the way for 4* recruits from St. Louis area. That is a must needed jump start for the second year. I have no idea who will be the next DC. He is not in any hurry. Plenty of others are also looking for a new DC. I remember Odom hired Dooley right away after he said" I was blown away with Dooley" when he finished the interview.

the Carolinas.
I need someone to tell me why the Carolinas are so important.

The Tide Water area in Virginia is a huge recruiting ground that don't have a instate Blueblood already locking it down. The same is the case in North Carolina heading south thru the eastern side of the state.
ETA: NC produces 8-15 4 star recruits yearly, and in contrast Missouri produced 5 in 2020 which was a pretty good class

As much as I think the Carolinas have helped us recently - ie - Larry Rountree, I still think Texas is where the focus should be in recruiting.

Mack Brown has NC on lock down. We won’t be making much headway there in regards to 4+ star athletes.
They have ten 4 star kids in their 2021 from NC.
Two high 3 star kids from SC.
And 3 high 3 star kids from NC.
Drink won’t be winning any of those battles.

We won't lose our Texas focus but the fact is our HC was at NC State and App State, so he already knows that recruiting ground. Can't waste that opportunity. NC produces an inordinate amount of D1 talent.

There is no reason you can't do both, except for money. If we are ever going to compete year in & out we need to expand where we draw in high level recruits.

UNC isn't some powerhouse that will have these kids automatically.

Mizzou doesn't pull alot of 4 star guys from any state, but to change that, you have to fish where the fish are. Who knew we could pull 2 4 stars out of Indiana?

I love to talk recruiting, as long as it's about the strategy, as I don't get worked up over the decisions individual 17 year old's make.
I hope we fully engage recruiting throughout the south and midwest. Texas has provided so much of the last 20 years we should make sure we keep a presence. We also shouldn't waste our presence in the East Division and the games we will play there.

reading several opeds regarding White the DC of WKU and his connection with Drink...
Does it matter that he runs a 4 2 5 defense?
Now that Mason is off the table, and Steele made 2.5 mil last year, which MIZZOU will never match.... I'll still be happy with a Reeves of UAB or Staggs from CCU.

The 4-2-5 would need to be able to get consistent pressure to the QB with a 4 man front. It wouldn't have worked this year that's for sure.
I'm pretty sure it's main weakness is the RPO, so that could be an issue also.

What about Strong for DC? He's out there somewhere.

Has anyone mentioned Ted Monachino? Currently linebackers coach for Chicago Bears and while he was between jobs worked as defensive analyst for us in 2018. Played at mizzou in the late 80s early 90s, i think. Was going to be DC at k state when the bears offered a better gig. He may lack recruiting skills but is a great coordinator on a higher level. Was DC in indy for a bit.
