I think UF overperformed and will take a step back, USC is totally unpredictable, not sold on OM, and will not be surprised if JFF can't make it to that game with his frame and style of play.

I don't know if UF even overperformed. I do think their record was way better than their performance on the field. Their offense may have been the closest to challenging Mizzou for inefficiency. I still think they're better than Mizzou but their not as good as what the record said last year.

People need to remember that UF played a top 5 SoS last year. Even if they regress this year, the schedule will likely be easier. I don't see why UF won't be at least 10-2.

Also, UF got NOTHING from their QB last year and part of that was by design. Their QB is very talented and now that he has some experience, their QB play should be greatly improved this year. I don't think it is wise to start poo-poo'ing UF this year.

Not poo pooing them. Just didn't think they were as good as their record would indicate last year.

So if 11-1 with a top 5 hardest schedule in the country implies some sort of level of "fluke" to you, what more did they need to do to show they were in reality an 11 win team?

That's not really what I'm saying. 11-1 is damn good. What I am saying is they were fortunate to finish 11-1. They may have been one of the weaker 11-1 teams I've seen. Bowling Green wasn't impressive. Barely beat A&M. Barely won the LSU game. The Vandy game wasn't far from having a different outcome. We all know how close the MU game was. It took outscoring Louisiana Lafayette 14-3 in the 4th in order to win. It took outscoring Florida State 24-6 in the 4th quarter to win.

I give them credit for owning teams in the 4th quarter and obviously you have to play all 4 quarters and all the other cliches, but they flirted with disaster a lot last year. They are good, damn good, just don't think they're as dominant as their 11-1 record would lead one to believe.

but remember, UF did all that with essentially not a QB. How many programs could go win 11 games with that schedule and not have a quality QB?

True enough. Their defense was stellar. Owned the 4th quarter. I'm just still not sold on Driskell until he shows me he can do it. Much like Franklin this year I suppose. Show me.

That was the difference in several of our games - the 4th quarter. By the 4th quarter, our defense was gassed from being on the field constantly, and we didn't have the depth to play at the same level. So, we might look good through 3 quarters (like the Georgia game) and then our lack of depth lost it in the 4th.

Florida will be good this year, but they're lost some offensive talent. It's a Muschamp team, so I expect their defense to be very good. Their success will depend on who they have running the ball and how effective Driskill can be.

Missouri and Ole Miss are going to be hard to pick this year. Both are unknowns. It is going to come down to how well the quarterback performs and again to overall depth. I think that was Missouri's biggest problem last year, just didn't have depth on the lines, and it showed. Many of these games will likely come down to which team is the least beat up.
I believe overall depth is the biggest weakness Missouri has. The good news, not as many power run teams on the schedule this year which translates into more favorable matchups.

I hope you're right, Ozland. It would be nice to have a better showing this year. Last year the injuries just killed us, especially in line depth. That's why Pinkel is running camp differently this year. He wants his lines conditioned, but not beat up before the season starts.

The depth was there, enough to win 8 games anyway. It was inept playcalling and piss poor coaches trying to shove square pegs in round holes. With a young, inexperienced line they refused to keep it simple and shorten the game with the run game. That in turn led to waaaaaaaaay too many passes from bad/injured/inexperienced QBs who were not getting enough protection from an OL still learning to play together while having a new OL lineup every week.

It has been the biggest shortcoming of Pinkel's staff since they went to the spread and it is inexcusable.
