Looks like a project. He has good size and athleticism.
He averaged 22 points 8 rebounds and shot 60% from the floor. But most of his scoring was dunks in transition, alley-oops and put backs.
Mizzou would probably be better off using that scholarship on the likes of Hall, Hargrove and Fletcher over the next 2 classes.

Normal, Ill. big man Francis Okoro released his top three on Instagram late last night. No Mizzou. This has been a weird recruitment. I don’t know if this is even for 2018 or 2019. Haven’t seen anything definitive on him reclassifying.

DJ Carton also released his top 6, without Mizzou on it.

Look at these highlights of Oroko. This kid is either underrated or because these are highlights they only show his best moments.
He's #33 in white
What a battle he had with Chris Payton(very entertaining highlights)

Several places now predicting Jontay to go in the second round. Does this increase his chances of returning? Has Martin been after anyone to potentially fill Jontays spot if he does leave? If not then why? He has said he wants to fill all the spots correct. Interesting.... or ..... nothing

Jontay isn’t coming back. The top 10-15 second round picks still get guaranteed contracts around 4-6 million.

“Reed gets a four-year deal, with the first year fully guaranteed at likely around $1.3-1.4 million to start (years and guarantees are confirmed, but the salary is not confirmed. See below*). The second year, 2018-19, is half-guaranteed with a 6/30/2018 guarantee date while the last two years are non-guaranteed with no set guarantee date (i.e. mid-January of each season to guarantee the remainder of the season).”
This was the 32nd pick last year. Am I missing something? I don’t see 4-6 million guaranteed.
The difference between the first and second round seems pretty significant. Just a quick search turned up this
“Of last year’s second rounders, two-thirds of them didn’t get on the court in an NBA game this season.”
“Take it back five years and you’ll find just four second rounders from the 2010 draft still on active rosters, and none of them are starters.”
Not trying to be an arse

1) not sure he goes if overall grade isnt 1st round
2) dont think they get paid that much
3) a lot of people dont realize how close Watson and Jontay are.

I wrote about the changing financial incentives of the second round in the NBA Draft. We’ve officially hit the point where it’s disingenuous to argue that a player “should return to school because he won’t be a first round pick.” theathletic.com/350458/2018/05…

If you were a college selection taken in the top-20 picks in the second round of either the 2016 or 2017 NBA Draft, the average guarantee you received was over $2 million.

As always: prospects should do what they’re most comfortable doing. If you think staying in school helps you develop, that’s great. But even if you’re a borderline type now, the money is there if you don’t want to be in college anymore.

I also tracked the immediate post-draft NBA contracts of every second rounder selected from the 2014-2017 NBA Drafts in a chart at the bottom of this story. Here are the 2017 numbers: theathletic.com/350458/2018/05…

That chart predates the current CBA that the NBA/players association signed in the fall of 2016. Under the current CBA it’s worth it for more players to go early than under previous CBAs.
The more the NBA invests in the G League over the next few years the more players go pro early or completely skip college. Adam Silver regularly talks about the NBAs pls for the G League

There is a huge difference between first and second round contract values. True or false?

Depends on the range within first and second round. For example the bottom 10 picks in the first round and the top 10 picks in the second round are that far off in value.
If Jontay knew that coming back a year meant he for sure would be a lottery pick, then it’s worth coming back Financially.

Mizzou has a new basketball player for 2018 in preferred walk-on Evan Yerkes.
Blessed to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Missouri!! Thankful for everyone who has helped me along the way. ?????? LINK

Isn't the point not what he gets from his rookie contract. The point to going is getting to his first free agent contract a year earlier. Well, since he reclassified out of high school, he'd be getting there 2 years early in a sense.

You are a bad translator. The difference between the 25th pick and the 35th isn’t that big. If you read the Athletic article I linked earlier you would see that. There is a big difference between being a lottery pick and going in the second round.
MPSr said earlier today that if Jontay doesn’t get an assurance that he’s a first round pick that he would recommend returning to Mizzou.
