If the article is correct and KA is being out worked on the recruiting circuit that is very bad for Mizzous future. He needs to be camping out at AAU practices in stl & KC there are too many high level kids in the region to miss on.
He was. I don't doubt he called. But he wasn't showing his face in person as much as the others. And I mean it wasn't close from what I saw.

Or he had little interest in Mizzou and wasn't retweeting any of that stuff.
Again, I think the way more likely scenario is we knew we didn't have a shot and we didn't waste our time. That's more believable than KA being lazy or him not knowing that a good way to recruit a kid is to communicate with him and show up at his games.
I get it though. KA is under fire and it's mostly his own doing.

He retweets everything. I almost stopped following him because it was a constant flow of anyone that mentions him. And for whatever it's worth, Coach K and Cal were in the pictures. KA not.

That's kind of my point. It should never be a wasted of our time when it's an instate kid and if you put in the time and effort to develop the relationships.

There are plenty of reports of KA and Fulford out recruiting. It is not like they are sitting at home. There have been reports of Fuller out recruiting in FL, NY, STL, and kansas (I just threw that in because I'm not sure how he does it while not being able to leave campus). Fulford's dad died with a day or two before a quiet period and he delayed going home to finish up because of the limited time and importance of recruiting. KA was there with him the whole time.
A school like Duke can outrecruit you for player even if they spend half the time recruiting. They identify 10 kids and spend all of their time on them. They know they can fill their roster from just those 10 because they are only competing against a few other schools. A school like Mizzou has to recruit 30 players and hope we can fill our roster.
Also Tatum can RT a lot more stuff about the big name coaches because they always get mentioned when they show up somewhere. If KA shows up or the other 30 coaches there to watch, they don't get mentioned by the media. Just the big names.
The one constant for Missouri coaches over the last few decades, is that it is hard to land the big name in-state recruits. Is this because all of our coaches suck or is it because they have to overcome the family, friends, and peers of these recruits telling them how much cooler it is to go to a big name school? Schools that keep the in state talent don't have to overcome this hurdle as much as Missouri (this goes for FB and BB).
Also for the last 2 years nobody thought Tatum would go to Mizzou so why is it such a big deal or surprise now?

Losing a 5* in state recruit is a big deal. Losing him was not a surprise.

If the kid flat out tells who he isn't coming here or he isn't responsive to your efforts then there is little point of beating your head against the wall.
If you are speaking in a broader sense of Missouri kids not being loyal to Mizzou then that goes WAY beyond KA.

I am. And it does. That's why I said earlier I don't care if it's KA in his first year or Norm Stewart in his 20th. It just so happens that it's KA's turn at the helm.

It's never a waste to see an AAU game for MoKan or the Eagles. Our coaches should be fixtures at those games whether we're "getting" any of those kids or not.

Exactly. And it's not just Tatum. Tatum just happens to be the name on the jersey this time and KA just happens to be the captain this time.

And having worked in a sales managment role in St. Louis, it doesn't hurt to have a Melanin Enhanced person running your St. Louis city efforts. One might say it is almost essential. And by almost essential, I mean essential. You can fight against that fact or complain about it or say it's not right. And continue to have zero impact. Or one can simply recognize the reality of the situation and adjust one's approach accordingly.

Again though, what makes you think our guys are not recruiting the AAU circles in STL and KC?
Posted on 4/9/15 at 9:56 pm to JesusQuintana
I think they are. I just don't get this discussion of "wasted time and/or resources." That is impossible in Missouri HS basketball at this point. Especially at the population centers.

Wasn't Peeler the last great player out of Missouri that we got? Thames was a good player and not a great player.
I don't know how true this is, but somebody I know that's in the loop told me that Mizzou has a habit of offering top players often, but not asigning a main recruiter to stay on them with attention. Lock was an easy get, but Beckner was one of the only few that Mizzou gave their total attention in football.

How do you figure KA is not on the hot seat. His seat is hot as hell. If he doesn't make it to the NIT he is most likely gone. If he gets to something worst he almost he is gone. I don't see this team making it to the NIT. He is very much on the hot seat going into this next season.

I agree that recruiting class will be huge. If the fan base doesn't support a coach after one year and puts him on the hot seat prematurely I don't think that helps. Kids want to know a coach will be around.
KA isn't on any hot seat. But if he's gonna get stroked to the tunes of millions of dollars for doing a good job, his failures can be pointed out too. Doesn't mean anyone wants him fired. That would be the worst thing for Mizzou right now.

Unless he does worse than this season, I think he gets a year 3, due to "improvement". If he gets 2 strait "improvement" seasons, I think he gets 2 additional years minimum.

He is definitely on the hot seat. Basketball doesn't take years to rebuild if you can recruit worth a crap.
Posted on 4/10/15 at 2:54 pm to mosoblkcougar
Every coach is on the hot seat every year in all major sports.

KA is going to have to get around the 18 win mark to keep his job.
Just my opinion. But with a new boss in town that will surely want to hire his own guy...

I don't know if he has to double the win total, but the team will have to show improvement.
