Do we know for sure KA struck out on Tatum? If it is true, what is ironic is me and my son were watching the press conference online last night. When he got to talking about recruiting and only pursuing guys that Mizzou can realistically get, my son looked at me and said "He's just trying to soften the blow because he knows he isn't getting Tatum."
Hope it's not true and yes we kind of expected it to come, but if it is true, it's a major failure by KA to not seal up these damn borders like he said he'd do. You know, him and his wonder recruiter Loos were gonna get the top in state kids.

Agreed that has a lot to do with it, but having one of your best friends on the team already, plus knowing you'll only play for 1 year helps too.

I don't know if SLU is just a courtesy 808. The odds are you are right and he'll go to a blue blood, but I talked with someone who knows the Tatums and he truly understands and believes he'll go pro after 1 year no matter where he goes, even to SLU. The pull of playing at his dad's school and just as importantly, his godfather, Larry Hughes' school, isn't just a courtesy IMO. Larry showed you could go to SLU and still have a long NBA career.
I think they're still the long shot, but I think it's more than a courtesy.

Yeah I'd agree I don't think that's just a courtesy at all. Doubt it happens, but would be really cool if he were to go to SLU.

I agree with a lot of that article.
And I kinda think KA maybe didn't go after Tatum because he didn't want to fail big. If you don't pull out all the stops and you don't get a guy, it's not the PR issue that pulling out all the stops and not getting the guy is.
And KA's rather dismissive assessment of (let's be honest) Fuller's approach to recruiting ignores that Fuller had to try to recruit kids to a 9-23 team without leaving campus. It's ridiculous on its face.

Yeah it's his fault Fuller couldn't leave campus. Maybe if Fuller had recruited better players the team wouldn't be 9-23. Just a thought. Point being you seem to blame everything on KA. I don't doubt he has issues, but the attitude that other outlying factors aren't at play IMO is silly.

No. Part of it is Fuller's fault. You won't hear "part of it is my fault" from Kim Anderson, however.
And it is Anderson's (or at least someone at Mizzou) fault Fuller couldn't leave campus. It wasn't the NCAA.
I don't blame everything on Kim. But he's not absolved of blame. Not sure why that's hard to see.

Come on Reedus. I know KA is an easy target right now, and he deserves most of it, but Tatum is a true national recruit who can go anywhere he wants and KA was very late getting in on him. He's been recruited for years now.

Porter is a national recruit and will be able to go anywhere.
Cook will be a national recruit and will be able to go anywhere.
Sneed will be a national recruit and will be able to go anywhere.
At some point, not getting these guys is a failure. Not making the final four of an in state recruit should be a failure.

Well, whatever. It doesn't matter if you made the final 4 for him if you weren't going to get him and everyone knew we weren't going to get him. Never really had a shot. So if I'm listing KAs failures this doesn't even crack the list.

I agree that recruiting class will be huge. If the fan base doesn't support a coach after one year and puts him on the hot seat prematurely I don't think that helps. Kids want to know a coach will be around.

I think he took a lot of liberties in that article. Unless I'm wrong, I don't think he'd have any idea what communication was like between Mizzou and Tatum. Yet he puts it out there as a fact that Mizzou didn't recruit him hard enough.
I think it's just as likely that Tatum told the staff, maybe not directly or maybe directly, that they were wasting their time.

All I know is Tatum retweets everything. It has been a constant procession of Coach K, Williams and Calipari. I can only think of one time that KA was mentioned as coming to a game or an open gym or anything. Freaking pathetic if those tweets are an indication of who was showing up.

Truth. KA does no wrong.

Nope. That shite has to change. I was upset that Beal and Lee went to Florida. I was upset Hansbrough went to UNC. I was upset the one kid went to Duke. Tired of Mizzou coaches doing a piss poor job recruiting within the state. And I don't care if the coaches name is KA in his first year or Norm Stewart in his 20th year. Have got to start locking down the borders and making Mizzou a destination spot for in state kids. Besides, it was KA himself who initially talked about locking down the state and how Loos specialized in Missouri high schoolers. Not getting Tatum isn't something I would ever say should cause someone to be fired but it is yet another strike against KA.

It's a swing and a miss. He continues to swing and miss and we have problems.

KA isn't on any hot seat. But if he's gonna get stroked to the tunes of millions of dollars for doing a good job, his failures can be pointed out too. Doesn't mean anyone wants him fired. That would be the worst thing for Mizzou right now.

If the article is correct and KA is being out worked on the recruiting circuit that is very bad for Mizzous future. He needs to be camping out at AAU practices in stl & KC there are too many high level kids in the region to miss on.

I could tell that KA was hardly ever showing up to visit Tatum or have their faces shown while all the others were. If I could tell that from twitter, I'm sure this guy knows more people and has more information at his fingertips. I have little doubt that KA figured there was little chance and devoted little time to Tatum. Instead, we were chasing Bryant and Briscoe and Maker.
