The guys take on Seton Hall in 4 games over 3 days.

Fri 1 pm - McClain
Sat 12 pm - Houck
Sat 3:30 pm - Plassmeyer
Sun 12 pm

Don't believe there is any TV or radio. Live stats is all I could find.

Little bit of a surprise with McClain going Friday night and that Houck is not our Friday night starter. Houck is getting all kinds of pre-season accolades. All American, top watch lists and so forth.

The other shock is true freshman Plassmeyer getting the game 3 start. The kid is from my alma mater so I should be excited but man, I was really hoping De Oca would get the start.

It will be interesting to see the starting lineup, mainly to see if Doherty makes the cut in the OF. My guess is he does not. At least to start. Missing fall ball hurts him. He has to pick a sport and hit it hard at this point.

Ladies have:

Fri 12:15 - Jacksonville State
Fri 4:45 - Elon
Sat 2:30 - UAB
Sat 4:45 - College of Charleston
Sun 9 am - Stephen F. Austin
Sun 11:15 - Stetson

6 games in 4 days. On a normal day, we should sweep all 6 games but that's a lot of games in a short amount of time. Ripe for a hiccup in 1 of them. Not sure who is pitching when.

Baseball comes in ranked by some, not by others. Probably around 30 is fair. They're per RPI before game 1 is played. Seton Hall is around 165. Hard to win all 4 in a weekend but I'd be disappointed if we didn't win 3 of 4.

Oh, and I really hope that De Oca gets that Sunday start. Sunday starter hasn't been announced as of yet as far as I know.

Also sounds like Howard may hit lead off. He's probably our best all around player but lead off surprises me. I like Ring with his speed and decent OBP to lead off and put Howard in the lineup where he can drive in runs.

Sounds like Benes will start at 3B and it sounds like coaches/players say he's a completely different player than last year. Hopefully it shows on weekends.

Guessing Lavy will start at 1B again, though I really wish we had a better option for the power position.

2B and an OF spot up in the air. Sounding like a true freshman will probably get the nod at 2B.

Is Hunt goon to factor into the pitching equation? He had a big arm in HS.

I have no idea. I'd read somewhere that he had stopped the baseball because of a bad wing. If true, combined with having not played in forever and I can't imagine he'd be more than an innings eater in innings that don't matter much. Which is still pretty damn impressive. If he can contribute in meaningful innings in meaningful games it's either a bad sign for the team or an amazing sign for Hunt.

Baseball has to come out big this weekend. Pitching match ups:

GAME 1

MU - McClain: 7-7 3.56 ERA 19 BB 80 K
SHU - Zach Zellenger 2-3 4.97 ERA 8 BB 18 K

Advantage Mizzou. In an interesting move, neither team starts their ace on Friday night. Doesn't look like Zellenger was a weekend starter last year, though he did start 6 games, compared to McClain's 15.

GAME 2

MU - Houck - 8-5 3.49 ERA 12 BB 91 K
SHU - Shane McCarthy - 4-4 2.19 ERA 9 BB 29 K

ADVANTAGE Mizzou. Both were freshmen last year. McCarthy led the Big East in ERA. Both freshmen all Americans. McCarthy preseason All Big East. Houck preseason All American. Not a game to take lightly here. Houck gets the edge because he did it in the SEC but McCarthy can flat out shut ya down.

SHU hasn't named a starter in games 3 and 4. Mizzou has only named the freshman Plassmeyer as the game 3 starter. The thing that scares me about Plassmeyer is that his fastball tops our around 85. If he's not hitting his spots and changing speeds, he's going to get slaughtered at this level. Or I'm just too much of a fan of the 6'7", 98 mph fastball type of guy. And yeah, we got one of those on the pine.

Offensively, SHU didn't have a player hit over .300 (Mizzou only had 1) but they also only return 1 player who hit exactly 1 HR last year. Not a single other player hit a HR. That's pretty damn shocking. I'm sure someone will step up and hit some for them but it tells me they don't have a lot of bats that scare you.

McClain and Houck should feast.

If De Ocha ever gets his command down he will be a weekend starter. Until then I think he comes out of the bullpen.

Can't listen at work but I'm waiting for either D1 baseball or Mizzou's site to start the stat tracker. I'm having no luck.

Hey yall. I'm on the Mizzou baseball bandwagon as I'm engaged to Brumfield's sister. Great to see him get the nod at DH for the opener. Good luck this season until we play.

Coach E was suspended by the NCAA for the first game today.

He emailed a writer offer to a recruit before August 1 of senior year. Stupid rule.
