Bad news......

This team is not good. Even with a healthy MPJ, were not much more than a .500 team at best. Guard play is atrocious. Shooting is a problem. I haven’t seen enough out of Coach Martin to decide if he’s a good coach or not. He’s had talent before, and did very little with it. Maybe he needs to go back to the Iowa St. video and show the team what is expected.
Off nights can happen, but multiple off nights is a trend, and not a good trend.
Is the chemistry bad? Is it the combos that Martin is putting on the floor? Is it the sub rotations? Are we playing too many players instead of focusing on 7-8 players getting the bulk of the minutes, so they can learn how to work together and win?
I’m interested in your comments.

They aren’t that bad.
Robertson is a career 40% 3-point shooter. He’s shooting 29% so far he will bounce back.
If MPJ comes back for conference play, Mizzou will be a tournament team.

It's a cop out, but we don't know yet.
There are some core things we do well. We do play quality half court defense. We do rebound well, on both sides. We have a couple of guys who can protect the rim. These are the good things I'm pretty sure we can count on.
I said awhile back that I was concerned with our guard play. I still am obviously. If Barnett and Robertson are not knocking down shots then we are in big trouble. I have no idea why coaches play Geist, he is an awful basketball player. At some point, you have to quit doing the typical coach thing of rewarding practice hustle. That's all well and good, but the guy can't play. We need to roll with Harris. There will be bumps as he develops but his ability to create and defend is far and away the best we have.
We've played 4 games. Two good. Two bad. The result directly tied to shooting the outside shot. We need Barnett and Robertson to produce. If they do, we'll be pretty good. If not, we won't. I know that's simplistic but I do believe it to be accurate.

The jury is obviously still out on Martin. Though the talent on the team being young, this team should finish over .500. The last two games are concerning but not overly concerned quite yet. Having said that, just as with BO, Martin has to now show that he can beat someone other than Missouri State or Emporia State.
As for the rotations, I suspect that will get ironed out and the players getting significant minutes will dwindle as we go along. My concern is that it will be guys like CVL and Geist. If so, we're in trouble.

He beat Iowa State, not Missouri state

He referenced Missouri State in regards to BO. And Iowa State is not a good team, but fortunately we handled them easily which is what good teams do.

If Barnett and Robertson go 1-16 from the field we won't win many games.
I'd wager this doesn't happen that often, but if it continues Barnett's minutes need to cut down quite a bit. He played 30 almost empty minutes yesterday.

Who else do you play though? We need Barnett to produce. Robertson was just as bad. We need him as well.
Those two are key. If they don't produce we are in big trouble.

If Robertson isn't shooting well, I would personally go with a lineup of Phillips, Harris, Puryear, Tilmon & Porter/Nikko. Phillips seems like he has trouble getting into a flow when he doesn't play many minutes and tries to do too much, but when he gets settled he can knock down shots at least. Their bigs, if they can stay out of foul trouble, are definitely the team's biggest asset. That and as good as Jontay can be, he does not need to shoot 3's. They have shorter guys who can miss those instead

It’s never too early for a Mizzou fan to say the season is over

It's early and they are very young....but that was ugly last night. Hopefully its just a growing together thing and its gets better as the season goes along. But damn...there were some ugly arse shots!!!

Giest and CVL are still horrible. They played one good game against a crappy Wagner team. Once conference play starts, they will be a non-factor

Not saying that at all. Just curious what others think. I personally thought we would win 22 games this year after the Iowa St. game. Not sure we’ll win 15 the way we’re playing right now. I imagine the team we’re going to be is somewhere in between what we see currently, and what we saw against Ia.St.

We've had back to back ugly games. Not hitting the panic button this early after three years of KA.
CM has a talented young team... A team that should improve as the year progresses....... Lets see what he can do with it his first year

He’ll have to do it without MPJ. He’s out for the season with back surgery.
