You always take a qb in every class, or at least that's what I've always been told. Zanders has huge upside, and turned out to be instrumental in recruiting. He's sort of Kim English-esque in his outlook and how he speaks. Seems like a great kid. I have no problems taking him, especially if he's a team player and wants to see the team succeed over personal gain. I do hunk some of these guys may eventually contribute in other positions.

Kim English is a great comparison of Zanders' personality.

As to the QB discourse... If Printz is good enough to outplay Mauk, we're gonna be in high cotton for years to come. Either way, with Pinkel playing the back-up a series or two a game there should be plenty of playing QB time to go around.

That said, I don't think he'll walk away with the job easily, and that's good. I think we want healthy competition there.
Absolutely. Franklin had to go through it last spring, but he proved he was the man for the job.

I just explained how I think he will transfer after his redshirt sophomore season (Mauk's junior season) because he won't want to play backup to Mauk for another season.

I don't see that in your post.

quote:

1. Mauk goes pro after his junior season. Printz is likely the next guy in line unless the Tigers get a Drew Lock type recruit. Lock would have taken a red shirt and would have 4 years of eligibility left. Printz would be down to 2.

2. Mauk stays for his senior season. Printz is relegated to back up during his junior season. Lock, if he is on the team, is groomed to take over after Mauk graduates. Lock will have 3 years of eligibility left. Printz is down to 1.

If Mauk is going to go pro after his junior year, then I can see Printz staying. If Mauk sticks around for his senior year (a much more likely scenario), I can't see Printz burning another year of eligibility to play backup just to lose the starting position next year to Drew Lock. But hey, maybe Printz doesn't actually have the competitive drive that I've heard he has.

I don't know how I could have been any more clear. At the end of Printz' redshirt sophomore season (Mauk's junior season), he will transfer because Mauk is going to start his senior season too. Printz won't want to sit behind Mauk for another season. If Printz has finished his degree by then, he'll be able to transfer without sitting out a year.

To answer the OP, we can take as many as 27 next year if we wanted, we'd just need to clear some roster space of older non contributers like the rest of the SEC does.
