No way this is the worst basketball team in the SEC. Fell apart at the end, but they could have given up a couple times and came back hard.

They didn't quit, that's for sure. I don't usually buy the "moral victory" tag, but this was a moral victory. Tie game in OT until 3/10 of a second left on the clock. 83-82

Definitely not going to be the worst in the SEC if they play like that. But dammnit that was a kick in the nuts.

Now if only people would go to the games...

Yea repeat that level of effort and this team can win lots of games. Not an NCAA team, but one that brings hope.
See how they respond tomorrow.

Lehigh took Xavier to overtime as well already this season. They are not a top 25 team. Way overrated. That being said, we look better than last year but they should at this point. We shouldn't be at the point as a program where we are calling a .500 team in a coaches 3rd year "successful".

Agree they are over-rated. But I dont care. I'd be happy taking a team ranked 60th to OT on a neutral court.

frick moral victories. We lost and Kim Anderson is one step closer to getting canned.

They would have lost that game by 15 in regulation last year. The perimeter defense was better than it has been at any point in the last 6 years.

Xavier grabbed 19 offensive boards. That issue isn't a surprise but it gave Xavier 5 more shooting attempts than MU.

Hopefully they come out with the same fire tomorrow.

The last 2 years Mizzou played 10 teams ranked in the top 25. Lost those games by an average of 23 points.
Today's effort has to be the norm, do that and this team can be ok.

Whoever it is here that lives and dies by Kenpom, you'll be happy to know that this is a true statement. MSU is now lower than us.

Mizzou has jumped 37 spots in KenPom rankings. If course if Mizzou loses today, could drop down as well. Actually Xavier dropped a few spots in beating Mizzou.

Also KenPom projects Davidson to win 80-76 today. KenPom has Xavier as a 14 point favorite. Really it's not that accurate at this point in the season, especially for a team like Mizzou. Now if everyone returns next year, then KenPom would be pretty accurate for Mizzou early in the year.

So you're saying we really could be the worst team in the SEC? I didn't watch the game but based on the score I wouldn't have thought that to be the case

Who knows at this point MSU got blasted by UCF yesterday. UCF was picked 7th in the American.
If Mizzou goes out and doesn't play with the same effort today as yesterday, then they will get beat. Davidson is the type of team that Mizzou loses to by about 10-15 the last 2 years

We played a pretty good game, but really shite the bed in the last 30 secs. Jackson misses the front end of a 1-1, we can't get a decent look on our last possession and Phillips gets a 35 footer blocked, then the ultimate bonehead foul by Phillips on their last possession.

They do look better, but they let a great opportunity for the program slip through their hands.

I would rather the team run its regular offense at the end of the game. At least run a set. We really didn't do anything. Phillips also took his shot too early.
Of course Xavier did the same thing st the end of the first half, & Hughes got a layup as a result.

There were some very good signs in this game, and some bad ones (intercepted passes and various other turnovers come immediately to mind). Phillips had some decent numbers, but he pushed too hard at times, needlessly. Puryear had a good game.

While early season rankings are iffy at best, Xavier clearly showed they were not a #11-ranked team.

A very entertaining, hard-fought game. But Kimbo still has miles to go before he's out of the woods.

Xavier reminded me of a better version of Haith's last team. 3 really good players. All big for guards. No really true PG. and iffy bigs. Having Davis out is really a concern for them.
