His resources given to him now don’t match those expectations.
They don’t match his overall record? Or they don’t match his high water mark?
He’s 9-15 in SEC play. He’s likely to be further behind .500 in conference after year 4. I’m ok with the job he’s done. But let’s not pretend we have Bo Schembechler here.
An 8-4 Jeremy Pruitt in year 3 will be on the hot seat. A 7-5 Gus Malzahn is on the hot seat this year after an SEC West title last year. The expectations are lower here. The program revenue is lower. The overall AD has a negative cash flow. Thus, lower pay.

And those coaches are paid much more. Their assistants are paid much more. The resources given to BO are the worst in the SEC. The product on the field is middle of the pack SEC. if we want that or better, we need to pay him accordingly.
Ultimately the more resources given to a coach the more we should expect of him. Right now we should expect BO to be the 14th best coach and Mizzou to be the 14th best team, based on how they are supported.

If 9 out of 14 is middle of the pack, then he’s middle of the pack.
A big part of compensation is based on experience. Do you know what Gus Malzahn’s initial contract was at Auburn? 2.3 million

That was about average for a SEC head coach in 2013. It is now the lowest contract in the SEC.
We either need to be ok with mediocrity/accept being bad, or invest in the coaching staff and expect more.
8-4 is a good year based on the contracts that BO and his staff have. If they get paid more we can expect more.

2013 wasn’t 80 years ago. It was five.
I’ll ask again. Name a coach making $3.5M that’s not named Lovie or Chad that you’re sure Barry is better than.

subjective - but i could probably name a few id think.

Just bump him up to 3 million, with incentives that could get him another 1-2 million

I think if you take experience and tangible results (conference championships, big time bowls, etc) into account, it’s hard to name more than a few. And the ones that look like likely candidates are mostly coaches on the front end of their P5 career (Morris included) who won’t be where they are for long if they don’t produce.

I dont see the problem iwith paying him more and still keeping him on a short leach.
Mizzou has the money. Mizzou is the cardinals that all of Missouri can share. Missou has history of seeing what they can get away with money wise.

If we hit 2014 football ticket revenue ($20M), that alone would be a $1.66M bonus.
He may want to think about being a bit more fan-friendly. The ticket promo for Arkansas was a good start to that. And he may want his team to start a little stronger since more home games are on the front end.

BO may not really care about getting paid more. But he’s definitely on a few occasions talked about needing to pay his assistants.
To draw good assistants the HC needs a real buyout, say 7-10 million in the first year of the contract and money to spend on assistants. Elarbe probably stays if last years extension offered more security.

dont you think this is a mizzou fans problem? Mizzou fans are quick to judge or turn on coaches.

Yes and no. We’re not turning a profit in the AD. We’re far from the only school who doesn’t turn an athletic profit. But it does affect salary.
And we do have a history of going cheap. Which is one reason he was hired in the first place. That doesn’t mean we have to pretend he’s a weathered veteran of head coaching when it comes to salary negotiation.

Mizzou’s not hitting that 2014 revenue for a few years. 2015 has chased too many fans away. Many of which will never return. I don’t blame BO for those fans Exodus. It’s going to take consistent winning, say at least 8-10 wins per year over 5-10 years.
Although with the new SEZ they will make more on way few tickets.

You keep leaning on this, and no idea why you are protesting so hard. Yes, you don’t like Odom. You’re going to have to get over that I’m afraid. He’s going to be here for awhile.
Why you are so concerned with him getting paid market value is puzzling.
Name all the coaches you are SURE he isn’t better than. It’s a silly exercise.
Ask yourself why our coach doesn’t deserve to barely crack the top 40 or be 9th in the SEC?

We’re not the only fan base that turns on coaches.
From a marketing perspective, marketing the program to his own fan base doesn’t seem to be a huge priority for Odom. He may feel it’s outside his skill set or unimportant. But figuring out how to connect to the fan base and have them invested in his success will be a huge part of him turning the corner with attendance. Some of that simply may be time. Some of it will be results-oriented. But I think there’s other things he can do to connect.
That analysis is worth exactly what you paid for it.

He’s currently being paid market value. His agent is angling for a raise.
I’ll take your refusal to name coaches he’s better than as an affirmation you looked at the list.

If we finished 10-2, would that have facilitated a return of fans more than 8-4 did? Would 6-6 have hurt the fan attendance?

So you think he’s the 70th best head coach in college football?
