Sure I would rather have all four and five star guys but since the coaches think we already have Beckner in pocket and will give us a class ranked around 20(better than ever before), I think its smart to fill the squad with some hidden gems. God knows they've proven they can do it.

I think Agbisimere and Smith both have 4* talent. One of the biggest things cutting against them is the fact that they either haven't played football for long or they haven't committed full time to football. Therefore, they didn't attend the camps where you don't so much learn anything new but you are buy your way up those star rankings.

lol,, yea the "star system" is just so complicated. I understand that if you have "no stars" it's because you're so far under the radar nobody has noticed you. I realize that "under the radar" and "diamonds in the rough" are a religion to a large portion of Mizzou fans, for the millionth time, this religion of yours has never won a championship. Sorry to have keep informing you of that fact.

If you have no stars it means you haven't paid to attend some schmucks camp. It doesn't mean you've been unnoticed. Obviously 2 of them were noticed.

sure why not, meanwhile while your at it, you could point out to Pinkel just how weak his recruiting is and always has been and how desperately he needs to hire a "recruiting" specialist that might teach him and the rest of the staff how it's done.

A good start for Pinkel would be for him to admit that to get to the next level he needs to get better at coaching, both X's and O's and recruiting. Rather than sticking to "we do what we do" and whining that we need to "play better" after losing big games.

Nope. I meant in terms of commits. Who would have made you happy. Give me your 19 (I think that's where we're at so far).

Don't fall too far in love with the star system.

When Larry Coker took over at Miami, he inherited an NC team and quickly got another one. But his achillies heal was relying on Rivals to tell his staff who to make offers to, instead of their own evaluations. They had consistant Top Ten recruiting classes, yet each year they won fewer games until Coker was fired.

Pinkel and staff gets kids that are a year behind in developement that Saban gets, but they do develop. He's just got to keep winning. That gets the higher "stars" (aka the kids more developed).

Players really get evaluated and given star rating during the summer by going to camps. If a player impresses at one of those camps then recruiting services look deeper into that player.

Smith was invited to one of those but went to a AAU basketball event instead.
The kid from Florida should of been evaluated, due to a teammate going to FSU. Hard to understand how he was missed.

Bottom line is there is room for improvement no matter how good or how poor you're doing. Improvements can and need to be made to the in state recruiting. Improvements can and do need to be made in the level and depth of our recruiting. Improvements can and do need to be made to minimize the number of misses we have with recruits, which can be 2* or 5* recruits, we've had both.

But to belittle this class blows my mind. To be blinded with negativity to the extend you can't acknowledge a job well done when it is, in fact, done well, baffles even this negaTiger.

you know I don't really follow HS recruits that closely, a #1 class would have made me happy, ok seriously a #20 class would have made me happy. That's where we both agreed not so long ago that we need to be... we aren't going to be close to that are we?

Justin Smith and Agbamisere will get their rankings. If they land Beckner, Jacobs and a couple of other guys, they'll be in the 20's, depending on whether other teams move up.

If TBJ commits, I think we will be close to that. I'm not a recruiting junkie, though.

Right now we're 34. If we land Beckner, Jacobs and Hall, we'd move to 22 or 23. Assuming Smith and Agbamisere get ranked (and they eventually will), we will either move up again or hold our position. I would anticipate being in the 20's, probably upper 20's though, when it's all said and done.

yea, that's nice. What you win matters though.
quote:

staff gets kids that are a year behind in development

if that were the only difference it would be one thing, but the rating services have proven that classes loaded up with 4-5 stars year in and year out wind up winning conferences most of the time and NC's all of the time. If you're trying to insinuate that the 2-3 stars wind up being about like the 4-5 stars that they are recruiting, then that is the exception but not the rule.

If that were truly the case that the 2-3 star kids can mostly be as good as the 4-5 star ones, then why bother wasting any effort going for the hard to land star guys? Yet we see all of this effort plus fan excitement about landing this class with several 4 stars and the hope for a 5 star in Beckner. You can't have it both ways, either these 4-5 star kids we are trying/hoping for are worth the rating or they aren't.

I like how this class is shaping up after the weekend. Far better than I expected early on.

I'm a bit paranoid about TBJ visiting CUM this weekend though. Convince me I shouldn't be worried.

a concern isn't it, what effect will the elliot recruiting company have? Getting Beckner would appear to make this the best class yet, sadly not a top 10 and maybe not a top 20 class though.

Hope these guys are really the "could have been 4 stars" the article makes it sound like.

Pinkney has cancelled his visit for this weekend. Hassan Belton has also cancelled his visit.

I believe Terez Hall is their top spot left at LB. Belton was a 2* LB so I assume they only have room for one project at that position in this class.
