National recruiting expert Randy Taylor of NCSA Sports was on 920 St. Louis today talking Missouri and a little SEC too. He really likes our class. Talks Walter Brady, Marvin Zanders, Andy Bauer, Raymond Wingo, Ish Witter, Nate Brown, etc.

Enjoy.

Nothing new, but another break down of this class and what's left.

Looking at the article on SEC Rant's main page titled SEC Recruiting: 2014 Uncommitted Prospects at the bottom of the list DE Derek Barnett, Brentwood, TN is listed and the article has Missouri as a school he is interested in. This is a new name. Is this a legitimate recruit or did the author of the title make a mistake?

I don't know. Last I knew, he'd been committed to UT for quite some time. Him and Hendrix were both pursued by Mizzou.

Does anybody know what Logan Gray is doing now?

I kid you not. He works for MU as a tutor for the basketball team.

Rocel McWilliams update

Postby Zach Abolverdi » Tue Feb 04, 2014 5:40 pm
The Pensacola West Florida Tech defensive end tells me he is sticking with Missouri and signing his LOI tomorrow morning at 9:15.

From some Florida board.

ETA - Don't know poster and don't know the board so take it with a grain of salt.

What we are reporting too. MT @RecruitingAJC: If I had to pick right now, I'd say DB Tavon Ross sticks with Mizzou over #UGA.

Pete agreeing with a UGA tweeter. Again, don't know RecruitingAJC nor Pete for that matter, so with a grain of salt again.

Pete seems to be really accurate from what I can tell and never goes off of "hunches." If he is tweeting it I would feel its almost a certainty

Updating the recruitment of Tavon Ross

BY JONATHAN HEETER
jheeter@macon.comFebruary 4, 2014
Updated 7 hours ago

Less than 24 hours until National Signing Day, Bleckley County senior Tavon Ross is ready for the recruiting process to be over.

Ross didn’t tip his hand or say very much at all during the hour I spent with him on Monday.

“This is just Tavon,” Bleckley County athletics director Benjy Rogers said. “He’s a shy kid and doesn’t really like all this attention.”

The attention has felt suffocating for the past month.

Ross committed to Missouri on Aug. 28, two days before the start of the 2013 football season. His only other FBS scholarship offers were from Middle Tennessee State and Western Kentucky.

Ross, a three-year starter at quarterback who added playing safety to his repertoire as a senior, led the Royals to a 9-3 mark in 2013 and the first home playoff win in school history. He led his team to the playoffs three straight seasons and secured the first two home playoff games in school history.

But he also excelled at safety, where he finished with 87 tackles, six interceptions and four defensive touchdowns.

That senior season highlight tape didn’t reach the desks of some schools until late December.

By the time the recruiting dead period ended on Jan. 13, a number of schools were ready to pounce.

Georgia Southern offered first, hoping Ross may reconsider travelling to Missouri.

But then Georgia and Miami offered. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart visited Cochran, and Auburn called.

Ross hasn’t gone many days since Jan. 13 without visiting with a coach or two. He called the past three weeks, “super crazy.”

He visited Georgia and Miami before spending the past weekend at Missouri.

I get the sense that Ross would have stayed in the southeast if one or more of those schools would have offered last summer, but head coach Tracy White said Ross appreciated that Missouri offered a scholarship first.

As I said earlier, the very polite Ross didn’t say much. He lightened up a little when we snapped some photos of him in the school weight room for Wednesday’s newspaper.

He likes to hunt (turkey, duck, hog) and fish -- he'll fish anywhere that has water and fish. He played just about every sport at some point, including baseball, basketball and soccer. He will compete in track and field in the spring.

As far as any "hints" on which way he's leaning, do with this as you will.

I asked how downtown Athens compared with Columbia, but he said he didn't visit downtown Columbia.

He said he didn’t grow up a Georgia fan, although that doesn't seem to matter much in the age of recruits tattooing school names on their body only to sign somewhere else.

He was intrigued by Miami’s offer to play running back. He hasn't played the position since middle school. Miami's offensive coordinator James Coley has family ties to Cochran, according to Rogers.

Both Mark Richt and Miami head coach Al Golden visited Cochran as did Coley and new Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

I’ll have more in Wednesday’s Telegraph and online later today on Macon.com.

Coach expects DB Tavon Ross to stick with Missouri
By Chip Towers

Georgia has been making waves all over the Southeast with 11th-hour recruiting drama the past c0uple of days, but it appears the Bulldogs may fall short in their attempts to sway one prospect they were trying to get away from another SEC school.

Bleckley County coach Tracy White said in a text message to the AJC’s Michael Carvell he expects safety Tavon Ross to sign with Missouri on Wednesday. The 3-star recruit has been committed to the Tigers since last summer but visited the campus for the first time only two weeks ago and visited UGA this past weekend.

“He’s still committed to Mizzou,” White said. “Will not know know for sure until tomorrow, but I don’t think there will be any surprise signing tomorrow.”

Georgia’s recruitment of defensive backs has been very fluid the past week. On Monday the Bulldogs picked up a commitment from Shaquille Jones of Merritt Island, Fla. Tuesday they lost longtime commitment Kendall Gant, a 4-star safety from Lakeland, Fla., to Marshall due to academic shortcomings.

Yeah. If he enjoys the outdoor life, he's gonna love his time in mid-MO.

Maybe he can befriend DGB and get him into birds instead of bongs.
