I mean he's making more money and has fewer responsibilities, he only has to be concerned about the tackles. There are a lot of reasons that it would be appealing to him.

I hate reading "oh no, he was our best recruiter". I mean really? He obviously wasn't that great of a recruiter. People have said this shite about him, Townsend, and Hughes as they left. If they were all great recruiters, why in the hell is our recruiting so shitty?

It's not about Chavis, it's that Turner has never been anything higher than a D-Line Coach in over 20 years of coaching. He seems like a good guy, but that's all he'll ever be as a coach.

Don't know about Turner or Townsend, but Hughes was a good recruiter.

IIRC, I want to say the DL coach left to go to his alma mater, Indiana. That would make him more than just DT Coach. Also, if the rumors are true that he left because he wasn't considered for the DC job (2nd time, 1st time he went to Kentucky) then the "he left for less responsibility is out the window. Coaches don't normally want less responsibility so I don't buy that either.

Hughes would still be the best recruiter on our staff.

Sucks to lose Turner. I thought he was both a good recruiter as well as a good developer of defensive line talent.

Since we will have all new coaches, hopefully we can get them all on the same page and working under the DC.

My only guess as to why he would leave is that he was passed over (or found not suitable) to be the DC after Diaz left.

Sumlin needs a very good season this year or he will be canned.

I don't know the reasons that Turner left other than it seems to be the thing to do this year for all of our defensive staff. But as far as DC, I don't see Turner getting that anywhere. Seriously, DL coaches are rarely made DCs whatever the reason. We did with Chris Wilson but that didn't work all that well. Heck, Ed O can get a HC gig but nobody seems to want him as DC.
