OK. Here's how it went down without coming off as a "I'm an important person" post. during the 2002 season a lot of us kept getting banned from Gene's for the anti-Jackie stuff we were posting. I'm not one of the "6-pack" but was one of the few that was invited to partake on the 6pack board before Dawgstudent and Heydog opened it up. It was in direct response to the bannings at the hand of Gene and his admins. We had to go over to Rivals Bulldog Blitz for awhile until Heydog and DS set that board up.
There were about 10-12 original posters on there before he opened it up:

if you count that's actually 8. But gene's posters kept saying it's about 6 of them that are causing trouble. The term 6pack actually came from an admin called All Four Paws. So after being banned a lot, they kept saying if you don't like the rules here, start you're own board. That's what happened.

So a lot of us had gathered on Bulldog Blitz and then DS and Heydog emailed a few other posters about something private:

myself(CdawgNHouston), Pimpdog, Mutt the Hoople, Pariahdog(aka bark simpson... aka Ronny Atmosphere), jsireland, travis, JR, and I'm sure I'm forgetting the select few more.

The rukus kept happening through 2002 season and into about Feb 2003. They started the board around April of 2003 and then opened it up with a big "IT" is happening on Gene's page. That's when they opened it up for anybody. Well the gene's banning kept happening b/c of anti Jackie through all of 2003 season and the membership at sixpack grew directly from the Gene's bannings. The rift between the two sites was comical at times. Sixpackers were secret rebels. Bet you didn't know that.

I stopped going over to sixpack as much during Croom's last year b/c there was just so much bashing you could take against Croom and the players and that's also around the time chicken opened up the SECrant. Also, 8dog(good poster BTW) was deleting some of my posts that use to always be in the spirit of the original sixpack mode. So I just go over there and read from time to time now.

I almost feel a little saddened when I see people say sixpack is a joke b/c at first it started as something great and some good posters would always seem to get the scoop first about all things MSU related. But I also have noticed the change in it and I don't blame DS for letting that happen.

I actually remember when you came on board and started posting on sixpack.

I didn't start getting online at all until after my wife passed away in February 2008. I found sixpack shortly afterward and it was my 2nd favorite message board. I had another priviate board that started up from the MSNBC college board that I enjoyed more. No put downs were allowed there at all. No trolling.. period.

I dont' really know when I found SPS to be a little over the top but I was glad to find the Rant. It does seem better I will admit.

You can't have a circle jerk and get away with it because another fan base will call you out. I do tire of the trolls that live to put you down here though because your are Moo State or Rebel Black Bears or Jorts or can't spell or.... It's a waste of my time to read that shite. It's not funny to me.

Both places do have it's pluses and minuses.

Thanks for the origination story of SPS, I had heard bits and pieces but never quite like that.
