As far as close exhibition games against lower level opponents go, it happens(just from front page of google):

There are many such examples in every exhibition season. Those small schools take these games as their Super Bowl.

I follow State, OM, and USM(at least previously under Eustacy) on there... mainly so I can get push updates on the status of all 3

Even the Grindfather isn't this optimistic with our 8 man roster. I hope we don't get into foul trouble.

You have been very pessimistic on basketball overall though. As pessimistic as anyone here. We aren't going to be as bad as everyone is thinking, although losing Applewhite does hurt our depth badly, when we couldn't afford to lose anyone else. I'm still saying we get 12-14 wins.

Everyone keeps talking about an "8 man roster" but what changed compared to the last couple of years? We spent 90% of the year only going 7 deep last year(and had several guys that stayed in foul trouble). How will this season honestly be any different in that regard? Only way it changes is that we will play with alot more intensity and effort...

The fact that if we get 2 players in foul trouble or have a player injured during a game we have NO DEPTH.

You guys also don't understand the lack of talent this team has as compaired to ANY of the teams that Stans had.

Gonna Be a LONG, LONG YEAR.

Only having 8 active, healthy players also changes gameplans. Im not sure Coach Ray will be able to play the uptempo style he wants to play with the lack of man power we have also we may have to play a lot of zone defense as well.

I honestly think we could go winless in the SEC. Unless we catch a team like USCe having a really bad shooting night we will be underdogs in every game we play this year in the SEC.

Engie, no no no. We don't have a real scorer until Thomas or someone develops. We have NO point guard. We have No real center. We don't have anything right now except a couple young freshman that just aren't there yet. We have less talent than most sun belt teams.

I expect to lose to Alcorn. We are terrible. And you can thank all the big donors for this for keeping Stansbury an extra year. Before last season I wrote Stricklin an email telling him this would happen. He responded. I was right. I wish I still had it, so I could re-send it.

I think Thomas and Borchert are mostly there as scorers. Both will average in double figures. I think Sword and Ware will surprise people. They will need to round out their complete games, no doubt. Everyone knows about Steele, and Ray's dribble-drive-dish "motion" offense plays much better for his skillset overall. "Development" is a foreign term to me when it comes to basketball, because I have not seen it in the past 15 years, outside a few guys with incredible personal work ethic(Jarvis, Moultrie). Talent /=/ development and viceversa. I agree that in total star power, this team is down from previous years. I just think we will get much more out of the players in defense and effort, and this can be enough to offset our talent gap somewhat.

10-14 wins, down from 12-16, given the injury situation. We improve as the year goes on to the point that people actually feel a little excitement about next year. I think we end up 3-15 to 6-12ish in the SEC. I won't believe Ole Miss can take both games from us until they do it once that I actually remember... or more than 2-3 times in my lifetime(29 this month)...

We haven't had a coach that could develop talent for the last fifteen years either.

How is Ray going to develop talent when he doesnt even have enought helthy players to conduct a scrimmage (sans Baxter)

Talent is not developed in a scrimmage. Team cohesion and effort, sure. Players don't develop their individual skills by scrimmaging all day every day though, because if they did, Rick Stansbury would have a statue standing in front of the Hump!

Individual instruction and practice is the key to improving/developing players. In that regard, the fewer players our coaches are working with, the more individual work they can get in, and the more they should improve in theory... We will see on that.

Are you saying it's his fault? He could be the greatest coach ever and you would be hating on him because you have already made up your mind. Stansbury left him with nothing and you hate Ray for it. We had a long search. Do you think we didn't try to hire someone else? Were you in the interview room? Do you know his plan? Good Lord, you are being ridiculous about him. It's all Stansbury and the boosters' fault and you already hate Rick Ray. It's incredible, dude.

Yep...

He's held firm to that viewpoint from the very beginning, and it doesn't make sense.

Wish I was here during the first 2 years of Cohen's tenure...I can only imagine how that went! But it was all Cohen's fault too wasn't it?

Yeah Bundy hated Cohen the first two years and I was on here telling him to STFU the whole time.
