Your gonna want to live dt.
It's gonna be more expensive than further east, but that's where the law school is and that's where you'll find chicks.
Then when you figure out dt chicks, you can move onto midtown chicks, and eventually you'll move onto some 36 year old divorcee with a 25 million square foot home in eads.

I moved here in September and love it. Just don't download the local news app or else you'll learn about the 3-5 shootings per day as they happen and that's just depressing.
Recommended eats:
BBQ shop
Slider Inn
Chinese Sub Shop (best sandwich you'll ever eat)
Bryant's if you want a huge amazing breakfast for like 8 bucks. They only take cash though.
As far as "bars" we usually go to Celtic or young ave deli (another good place to eat) but there's a few downtown that are good but I just never go there.
We go to every grizz game we can too. We don't have season tickets but we are going to next year.
We live in Midtown and it's reasonably priced imo. We are close to the square so it's a little more than maybe a few blocks over.

Is crime like NOLA where it's everywhere or more segregated to certain areas like 99% of the country

Pretty much. South and North Memphis are the worst from what I know though.

You're not going to get shot downtown, but don't leave ANYTHING in your car. Large groups hit parking garages with speed being the essence leaving a wake of busted glass and broken door handles. No finesse jobs.. Seems to happen a good bit there.
