It's premature but it seems McElwain is out of Florida. With Mullen ties with Florida & Stricklin, could Mullen be headed to Florida?

I think Mullen retires at MSU. He may listen to UF just to prolong the NO.

If he was going before, after the way he was treated he ain't now. And he has built a team that he took to #1 without cheating.

I agree. Sexton will get him a nice raise and he will be back. He's got the multi-million dollar advantages that come with coaching in the SEC but also has the advantage of being in one of the lowest pressure jobs in the SEC. He'd be foolish to leave.

quote:

STARKVILLE — Dan Mullen quickly shook his head. He shrugged his shoulders. He delivered his words with a soft tone.

quote:

This was two weeks ago at Auburn minutes after Mississippi State suffered its second-straight lopsided loss to an elite SEC opponent. Mullen explained during the postgame press conference that maybe a couple of years ago he would’ve handled this particular defeat differently. But not now.

quote:

Mullen, 45, will be halfway through his ninth season after Mississippi State (3-2) hosts BYU (1-5) on Saturday (11 a.m., SEC Network). Experience in the coaching industry helps guide decisions and shape reactions to outcomes — but only so much. Perspective is often transformed by life outside of the workplace. Just ask Mullen. “You know what might have helped?” Mullen said. “Two things may have helped me. Travel baseball and caddying.” Mullen “mellowing out,” as those close to the program put it, with his approach to guiding Mississippi State’s football team the last couple years — and especially this season — can partially be attributed to his 8-year-old son Canon.

quote:

Canon started competing in golf tournaments in June. The kid who had a golf club in his hand when he was 1, Megan said, has talent; on Saturday, Canon will compete in the Regional Finals of the National Drive, Chip and Putt at Sawgrass with an invite to Augusta National and the Masters on the line. Mullen caddied for Canon during the summer. Golf is the epitome of an individual sport; there are no teammates to help. A caddy is the closest thing to a teammate, but that person’s job is to carry the bags and offer support. When Mullen watches Canon attempt to make a putt, Mullen is no longer in control. He is forced to just watch. When it’s over and whatever the outcome is, Mullen is then in a position to react. This is where he has learned to be careful. Mullen is emotionally-invested in whether or not his son succeeds on the course, but his response has an impact on how Canon fares next time — or if Canon even has fun. “With Canon, Dan has always been, ‘OK, we didn’t get that one, but we still have this one we can make, so let’s focus on that,” Megan said.

Not a chance in hell. He may leave, but it won't be to Florida.

Bailey would kick Stricklin out the damn family.

Whatever happens, expect Mullen to get a raise. There will be sooooooo many jobs open at the end of this year. A few of them will be able to muster big, big money. State may not be able to match the big money, but I can pretty much guarantee that we will lose Mullen if we feel we can stand pat.

I think the biggest hold that we have on Mullen is that next year's team appears to be loaded for bear. It will be hard to leave that to start a rebuilding job somewhere else.

I bleed maroon but I don't look through maroon glasses. I want Mullen to stay his whole career at State. If Mullen leaves to a better program, I wouldn't be mad. I will never be mad at a guy that makes a jump to better his career. He has given us 9 great years.

Bill Clark, the guy at UAB, is a better coach than 10 or 11 guys in head jobs in the SEC now. UAB should be having a 1-11 kind of year coming off of their self-imposed death penalty, and they are probably going bowling.

He is going to audition for bigger jobs against UF in a few weeks. He doesn't have the shiny credentials of a few other coaches, but he would be a solid addition to almost any team... and he will do it for a bargain price.
