20. ? Mississippi State Bulldogs

Last year: 8–5 (4–4 SEC); Lost to Iowa in Outback Bowl

SI Top 100 players: None

Bottom line: The Bulldogs took a step back in Joe Moorhead’s first season, but an elite defense means they could be a sleeper in the SEC if the offense comes together under a new quarterback.

It always feels like we're ranked just in time to get beat by another power 5 team to give them a win over a ranked opponent

I would love to feel woolly about this season, particularly given what we return on defense.

I just can't shake how bad our offense looked against any team with a halfway decent defense. While it would would be easy to just blame previous personnel, I just didn't see adjustments that would give us a better chance being made.

Joe has worked his butt off this off-season though, so maybe he's gotten acclimated to the SEC.

Imo this just shows how the branding of Mississippi State has increased in the past 10 years because this wouldn't happen 5 years ago.

Branding as we all know is just as important as being good. Otherwise teams like Texas, Tennessee, or Michigan wouldn't be considered relevant in the modern era.

With that being said that SI article shares my thoughts. If the offense absolutely clicks, because this will still be a top 20 defense, we have a team better than last year. If they can't, then we'll be lucky to make a bowl.

But I have no problem being ranked when quite frankly inferior teams such as Auburn and Texas A&M are.

we have a good team this year. coaching will sway how good we really are. if Joe plays with are talent instead of pushing his offense (like last season) we can be killer

Thanks for allowing me to post on the board guys!

I love this time of year. Gathering all the information we can to see what might be.

I know you took your lumps last year on offense, but the man is the offense of the future. He's smart. Listen to him talk. Watch how he gets great coaches.

He has worked his arse off to get players there. I like Mullen, but he was content to get the diamonds in the rough. And he did well. He helped change the mentality at MSU. BUT MOORHEAD has a gear over Mullen. HE has a genuine care about what he does. About his players. I have heard that well before he came to MS ST.

Long story short, you had 3 dropped passes in Scrimmage. You have a lot to be excited about. That whole AD Dept is great! Most wins in the SEC...ever last year. You set a record.

So again, I 100% believe the only team to challenge us is Ms ST this year and I believe we will have to win it with our run game.

Ms ST fans need to step up. It's ok to believe in your team man! You've earned it.
