Mississippi State is coming off of a 20 game stretch in which they only played 1 game. In that 1 game it was indeed a loss to a KenPom top 100 team at home, certainly not a bad loss but a little disappointing since the tournament was such a great run. But this is college basketball and we're not always at our best every night and sometimes the opposing team is. So luckily we have another opportunity to go.

We're playing Kansas State at the Prudential Center on Saturday and it really feels like because of the long break, that the "preseason" is over and the season begins Saturday with Final Exams finishing up this week.

Last year in New Jersey we destroyed Clemson and set a school record for 3s(I think it was over 20 wow). Safe to say I'm glad to be back at this arena.

This Kansas State team is another Top 100 team but they aren't world beaters. I think they're a mid tier, Big 12 team that'll make the NCAA Tournament. They've had a solid program for a while now. Unfortunately for them they're in the same state as Kansas and even Wichita State so it's hard to be in that company.

I think we're going to come out big and treat this as a big game. I expect the level we saw in Myrtle Beach. This might be a road warrior type team where we play better on the road than at home and that's no problem at All for me.

For those on a Weatherspoon watch, December 22nd vs New Mexico State in Jackson is the date. We have a game between then and Kansas State vs Radford in the Hump. NMSU usually snags up their Automatic Bid so expect that again, don't think they're as good as last year but that doesn't mean they aren't still a good team to play. Just a great team for our fans to watch in Jackson so see Nick debut.

The amount of shite this team and quite frankly the program has taken the past few seasons has been absolutely pathetic. Yes trust me, this has been a LONG process since we decided to fire Stansbury. But there is 0 doubt that Ben Howland has taken us back increment by increment where we belong in a recruiting standpoint, and now we're seeing it the past 3 years in the win column with his players. Several people on here said last year that the team was a "bubble team" and that they had "bad losses". Actually they had 0 bad losses last year, ended up with a 5 seed(one of our highest seeds ever, was the seed our 1991 SEC Title Team had) and brought us back to our first NCAA Tournament in 10 years. Yeah I wanted to win more myself, but the Nick suspension screwed us.

But now we're right in track to get to another NCAA Tournament appearance. in order for us to win in the tournament, we have to get back consistently, and Howland has us on track to do so this season. And with Nick coming back right at the end of the nonconference Schedule, it will get us a chance to get acclimated with him by Conference season and be a SEC Contender. Not sure if y'all have noticed, but the SEC is VERY weak this year.

And really it all starts in our first conference game vs #12 Auburn on Saturday January 4th. We need the Hump crowd of old to get us that key win. Last year we had a huge crowd vs Auburn and won that game. That team ended up being a Final Four Team. This program has gotten back to where we can win big games again. We need this one and I will reiterate this more and more as it comes closer to time.

For those of us who have followed this team through Stansbury and even through Richard Williams, you should be absolutely proud of the makeup of this team. And I havent been this excited for a team in a long long time. Hail State and enjoy the ride!

Yeah that long lay off killed us. But this was a great win we got today. They are a consistent tournament team and knocked off Kentucky en route to a sweet sixteen two years ago!

We play very well in New Jersey, we should play all of our games there lol!

I feel very good, we just have Radford on Wednesday then we get Nick next Sunday! I'll be there for Radford!

Good win today

I agree that this is a team our fans need to support and really get behind. They play hard and we have some talent. This group can make some noise this year. With NW getting back soon I am excited about this team.

Go Dawgs!!!!

You left out that sorry coach after Stansbury.

K State is next to the bottom in the polls for its conference, so, no big win here in my opinion. And, I do hope that the return of NW will greatly benefit the team's play, especially on offense. On Sat. the team to me looked quite sluggish and played with a lack of vigor and enthusiasm. I was pleased with the effort and results that Ado found in that game and hope that it continues as I feel he can play like that all the time. I also feel that Steward and Molinar have the talent to develop into really good players.

And yes, the progress that Howland has made over the last few years has been great and I can only hope that the turnaround is done, and the eventual target will be championship's both in the SEC but nation wide, if nothing else, at least a spot int he sweet sixteen, if not the final four.

Your excitement, and I presume confidence, for this team exceeds mine by a long shot. I hope you are more correct in your excitement and mine is just the result of years of accumulated disappointment. For some reason I watch all the football games and yell at my TV and root them on no matter how the game goes. When I watch the BB games my enthusiasm seems to wane, not sure why. I recall more of the old college spirit when Stansbury coached.

Oddly I yell at the tv way more watching basketball than football even though I like football more

I'll take the win. I was encouraged in the second half by the play of Woodard and Ado. State won this game without a good performance from Perry. And, Carter didn't shoot particularly well from the field either. I'm impressed by Molinar off the bench.

I think the team gets Weatherspoon back a game before conference play. I assume he is practicing with the team, so hopefully team chemistry won't be as much of an issue as last season when no one was aware of exactly how long he would be out.
