Really liked the final 5 mins by us today. We just had too much going against us. Whatever happens in Knoxville happens but I believe that will be a single digit game like tonight was.

We're playing our best basketball rn and while we're still close from getting the big big one, we avoided the bad losses and that's what has paid off.

We are a dark horse to win it all in Nashville at this point. I would take us over Auburn in Nashville today easily without Nick.

I am travelling from Auburn Arena. And I will be at the Humphrey Coliseum on Saturday as I hope all of you will be.

I'm not gonna lie. I can't get a pulse on this team. Maybe because every game I've had a chance to watch this season, we've looked bad.

First NCAA Tournament in 10 Years
See, I'm not sure if I should be happy or upset about this.

We had a dumb fanbase and booster group that thought they could get a better coach than Stansbury that would be able to clean the mess of the boosters forcing Sidney on him.

And because of that idiocy, we lost a generation of basketball.

Be Happy that it was able to be fixed. But it's been a long journey back.

Yep , had Elgin Bailey been retained and Renardo Sidney kicked off the team, we would have been much better off. Oh how it would be nice to turn back the clock about 10 years.

Sigh, as a result, we were in basketball wasteland for 6-7 years. Feels good to be back in the mix. Future appears bright as well. Howland has done a nice job recruiting and I believe our success will sustain itself going forward.

For the record, I think I was the lone Stans guy on this board during that. I'm probably the only one that hated losing Mullen too for that matter. it doesn't matter anymore though. Just nice to be back in it. I just hope we can make a deep run.

I was not on this board in those days. But I was always and still remain a Stans fan. The Sidney deal was big risk/big reward. Unfortunately, it was worse than any of us could have imagined at the time starting with him not getting to play along side Jarvis Varnado in 2009-2010. Then it just went from worse to worst.
I remember Rick Cleveland’s column in 2009 which said if the Sidney experiment did not work , he would lose his job. Very prophetic.

But glad Coach Howland is our coach. Obviously, he is older and I hope he can coach another 5-8 years before retiring. He certainly is not going anywhere else at this point in time.

Thankfully 2011-2017 is receding in the rear view mirror and growing dimmer with each day that passes. No pun intended.

Stans was a terrible closer of basketball games. It was infuriating being up by 10 with 2 minutes left only to lose again. It was a regular occurance. Howland is a better coach but Stans was the better recruiter. I prefer Howland, but I like Stans too.

Idk. Howland to me is the best recruiter we've had. He's locked down MS like Stans did and he's done well regionally with out of state kids like perry or ado.

In fact Howlands recruiting is the big reason why we got out the abyss.

And ended up with a mirror image of stansbury coaching wise(howland sucks). If we had chosen kermit instead of Ray, the move would have been perfect.

I hate watching this team. Its infuriating. We dont have a base offense.

Perry will be a dominant force going forward. That guy is legit

This team is frustrating to watch. I've said this before. We have some very good to great individual players, but as a team, we are way too inconsistent. It's as if we have three different teams in conference play.

One game, everyone looks good (plays their role) and we win. Next game, one or two players look unprepared or uninspired for most of the game, and we might win or lose by a couple of buckets. Then, we have games where almost everyone looks off of their game (crazy number of turnovers, lack of rebounding, missing easy shots like the Tennessee game) and we just lose outright.

Well any team that doesn't win every game is frustrating to some capacity. It's just amazing to me that this fanbase obsesses over the 9 regular season losses and fails to quantify any of States quality wins.

I could care less about beating Tennessee in Knoxville. No SEC title at stake and no NCAA Berth/seeding on the line. We could've moved up a seed but that's it. So be it.

We just need to beat Texas A&M this weekend and play some ball in Nashville

My point is that they are frustrating to watch even when they win. With as much experience as they have plus two really good freahmen, they aren’t reaching their potential. There is no plan or direction.

There are several players on our team because their dad played basketball at State. Those were gonna be locked up with any kind of above average coach. The 2019 class is ranked 52nd with zero top 100 players. There is one top 150 player but the other 2 are not even top 300 players. We do have a good group of young guys on the team currently tho

Perry was headed to Arkansas and if we don't have Howland, Woodard goes to Alabama. I think you would agree both of those players have been a difference this season and will be for the future.

Hey, I'm happy we're going back to the NCAA's for the first time in 10 years. Heck, I remember the mid 1980's when State basketball was even worse than it was under Rick Ray. And, I actually liked Rick Ray. I just think he was in over his head taking over an SEC program as his first real HC gig. I place that blame on our AD at the time. However, I'm glad we have Howland as our coach.

I just see some missed opportunities in a few games. I don't expect us to go to UK and UT and win those games. However, I would like to see us be more competitive in those games. We will have to win a game against a team like that in order to get to the Sweet 16.

This team won’t get past the 2nd round. Like our football team they win the games they’re supposed to and lose against anyone better than them.

Vastly underachieved, and when they face a 3 or 4 seed in the round of 32 they’ll get beat. They’ve yet to beat a team this year that will be seeded that high

yeah like i said above average... hell i wouldn't even consider the coaches at both those schools average. This doesn't make him some recruiting genius. It makes him slightly better than the bama and arkansas coach at selling a program. I think he is a good coach, but I don't think he will be able to keep up in recruiting going forward. He needs to find us a good replacement and retire in 3 years. He's old.
