I agree in principle... but the sleazeballs win in places where they are "above" the NCAA law. Places like Mississippi State and Baylor get hammered for doing the same thing in trying to compete. Watch what is about to happen @ Baylor to put them back in their place. Using Bruce Pearl is pretty funny, since he ended up fired with UT on probation...

FWIW if Bruce Pearl is available in 3 years I'd take him in a heartbeat

Like engie said, we can't hire people like Kenny Payne at Mississippi State. Yes if we could hire Pearl in three years and were looking for a coach, I'd be fine with it. But he would be under a microscope. Our athletic department doesn't want that.

Exactly. He got in trouble. Try to make some sense. You haven't made any in this entire thread.

If we had fired Stans a year earlier, we could have made a much better hire. But we didn't. We lost our chance. Face it. All because of Stans, the guy that you wish we still had.

Jackie Sherrill situation all over again.

We get hammered twice in 5 years for what amounts to a whole bunch of nothing, all because the NCAA has an ax to grind on our coach...

I didn't read all the replies. But the Answer is YES he made his first mistake by hiring Rick Ray. Also he won't fire him after 3 years because he doesn't want to admit he made a mistake until 4 years. He gets to sit on Mullen and Cohen and boss made Byrne hired them.

His mistake was not firing Stans two years ago, which forced him to make a bad hire this year. If you can't see that, you don't follow the basketball team very closely or you are blind.

Link?

I've never seen people so sure of failure and unwilling to give a guy a chance.

Opening line: MSU -8 over Troy

So if we had fired Stans two years ago we would have hired a better coach than Rick Ray? How so?

We would still be chock full of talent and in a situation to compete in the SEC. We would have gotten out ahead of the "dumpster fire" label, and we had every reason to get rid of Stans coming off the situations with Sidney/Bailey and the "dismissal" of Phil Turner.

We would have a returning senior point guard, shooting guard, a stud jr transfer, a guy with a ton of potential(Sidney), a 5* signee in Hood, and 2 4* signees in Gardner and Smith...just to name a few.

I'm still pissed about that Phil Turner crap. Phil is now playing overseas and doing great. You kick off the heart and soul of your team for arguably no reason

Same here on Turner.

How badly did we need him last year too? Or Gardner for that matter?

Stans' roster mismanagement is what got us to the position we are in. Was no fault of Rick Ray...
