It matters a lot!!! I have personally watched recruits (not all headed to MSU) not be able to bench what I bench. I was benching more than a DE who weighed 275 at 6'7" @ 10% body fat. I weigh 185.

100% true. We need a dedicated recruiter, not a coach.

If we hired Brian Johnson and
I would be VERY happy with the coaching changes this offseason.
I just wish we could do something about Hevesy. Dude has got to learn to recruit OL. How he can pull 4 star running backs (Aeris Williams and many expect Kentavious Thomas to commit this weekend) and suck at recruiting OL is beyond me.

excellent recruiter that doesn't have much to show for it given the area he's recruiting to and where he's recruiting from.
Then I have an issue with the hire. Recruiting to MSU over Bama, LSU is going to be the same.

I wonder how much it hurts us with our HC being from NH and trying to charm these kids and families from rural MS? Brewster seemed to be able to do it and he was from the NorthEast.

It's still easier to recruit Texas and Louisiana kids to Mississippi than it is to Utah.

Seriously he's a decent OL coach. Can't argue that when he's putting people in the NFL.
HOWEVER, he can not recruit. I know he has turned off more than 1 recruit that wanted to go to MSU. He is an issue that will remain here until Mullen is gone.

I know it fricking matters but it matters the least out of all the positions on the staff right now.

Hold on. Keep all things equal please. Not if those kids hold offers from Bama, LSU, A&M, etc..
I'm going to disagree. I am thinking that it is equally as hard.

Mullen has gotten better at it(Brew was in NC and Texas with Mack for YEARS in the south)...
The important thing to me is that Mullen continues to successfully introspect himself and the coaching staff and make adjustments for shortcomings. Notice, in the class of 2015, it seems he's given almost all of MS to Tony Hughes. Notice something else? Hevesy's name is attached to NONE of them.
Hughes is lead recruiter for us on:
Peters
Patterson
Spivey
Dontea Jones
Myers
Lewis
J'Mar
etc...
We need to pay that man so we don't lose him at the worst possible time next year.

We have the talent here in this State to do that.

Please tell me who we can hire to take kids from Texas and Louisiana that those three schools actively want? Because that person doesn't exist.

Then you are dumber than we already know you are.
The goal in those states is not to pull elite talent that those 3 schools want. It's to grab MORE of the Dak Prescotts and Josh Robinsons that they overlook. You know, the kind of kids that largely go to Baylor, OK State, Texas Tech, etc -- and blossom into total badasses.

I agree with that engie. We are in need of 4 OL next year and I think some will have to come from JC.

I think we get Danley(sp) from EMCC -- and then get 3-4 from the HS ranks. Feel like we lead currently for 2 pretty good ones in MS, but are still well behind on Patterson, who is a huge want...

Wow, darkhorse. That is actually a legitimate post.

Hevesy only coaches up diamonds. That's why they call him John "The Jeweler" Hevesy.
