That's what I thought too but I wasn't sure. Sandberg was always a top baseball prospect.

I don't even follow recruiting and know this is false.

After some research he did visit once in Jan. of 2013. I was incorrect
No games attended, no visit with team, did not attend camp however. MSU was leverage for him in the MLB draft and that was it.

He wasn't on the baseball radar until a big PG summer showcase several weeks or months after he committed to us. He was always a talented baseball player but not always a huge draft risk.
Sandberg visited MSU. Had a bunch of family ties to MSU with family members on both his father and mother's sides that went to school here. He knows what MSU is and knew what it was then.
He's still tweeting about MSU pretty constantly. It wasn't some leveraged bargaining chip -- he still feels connected to the program. If he doesn't get it going in baseball in the next season or two, he could be back before you know it.

Thanks Engie and others for laying out what actually happened. Some of these folks posting like they are all knowing need to maybe check out things first before showing their ignorance. Sandberg committed to us in June and didn't shoot up the MLB draft boards until late July and going forward from that. Now I fully agree that our staff was too slow in reacting to the real possibility of losing Sandberg but people acting like it was a foregone conclusion that he was NEVER coming here AT THE TIME he committed are just flat out wrong.

Dude you so full of shite. LINK
He was ranked as the 40th place prospect nationaly by Baseball Americabefore he signed with MSU.
Ranked #56 ByMLB.com LINK
All months before he signed with MSU.
Hell ever bleacher report got in on him LINK
Now what dates did he attend camp, and which games did he attend?

That's just wonderful. Only problem is you are showing rankings and draft reports from 2013. Cord Sandberg committed to MSU in June 2012. Try again.
And just to add nobody is disputing Sandberg was a significant draft risk when he actually signed. But that has nothing to do with how we handled other QB prospects 6 months before that after getting Cord's commitment.

Wow. I think you just disproved yourself.

Not trying to start a pissing contest but Sandberg was rated a 10, the top rating given to potential draftees 7 months before National signing day. This was not a case of an unexpected blow up right before fall practice started. If you do not believe the MSU deal was a leverage deal OK, most in the business will tell you it was. I would have done the same thing.

Article from June 2, 2013.
Cord committed to MSU on June 11, 2012.
Congrats -- you've proven that he was a big baseball prospect a full year after he committed to MSU.

Which proves exactly what I laid out for you the first time -- that is still somehow eluding you.

What does "fall practice" have to do with anything?

Why is he still tweeting about MSU? Why did he commit to MSU before he had any big baseball opportunities? Why did MLB have to double-pay his slot to actually get him?
What is the actual purpose of this argument that you are going full retard on? It has been prettymuch correctly represented by everyone else the whole time, yet you are persistent on losing your mind about it -- and I'm just trying to figure out why

Because he used college football as leverage you idiot. Bury your head in the sand if you like.

Namecalling directly before tTrump card.

The deal is for $775,000, well above the slotted signing bonus of $593,400, plus tuition to attend Mississippi State.

We were just his leverage -- yet he was generous enough to write us, by name, into his MLB contract? Continue with this lunacy and namecalling you posterized fricktard.
