A couple of preliminary baseball thoughts.

I have been clamoring for Mitchell to start for a while....never thought it would happen. Looks like it may. Now we just need Lindgren to get more innings.

Hopefully it's obvious to Cohen that Bracewell is a good reliever, not a starter.

Detz looks like he is coming back to form and that is huge for the offense.

Britton had a nice game. If he can put it together and we can have Detz at DH that would be great.

Now...time to get blasted by Vandy

Yeaaa being at home this weekend won't make much difference.

We'll be really lucky to steal one from vandy this weekend.

We're nowhere near their level offensively. And they have probably the best pitching staff in the conference, and among the best in the country.

We'll just have to capitalize against some of the lesser teams , which in our conference might only be Georgia and possibly auburn.

Missouri is awful. Arkansas is looking pretty weak at the moment. Too early to tell with most teams though.

There's a big difference between drag bunting for a hit, which you are apparently talking about(which has nothing to do with my argument), which is something that I like and never complain about -- and sacrifice bunting guys over, which we do the vast majority of the time and I don't like early in a game and outside of certain situations. They are 2 entirely different plays -- and shouldn't even be considered under the same umbrella.

I'm not talking about drag bunting, or basehit bunting, I was literally just pointing out that "success rates" whether you are talking about batting averages or runners scoring after a sacrifice bunt, they are going to be lower in baseball.

Maybe this will be an easier way to put it:

On a test, if you score a 70% you pass. In baseball, if you hit for .270 average, you "pass".

So if you sacrifice bunt for a 25% "success rate" in scoring later in the inning, you "pass" so to speak. That is all I was saying about your percentages you posted.

I'm not trying to argue with you -- I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from.

Hope that helped.

I just like spirited, in-depth debate. If I come off wrong sometimes, I apologize... I don't mean anything by it at all and don't even realize when I'm doing it until I reread stuff I said later.

The only thing that bothers me is that sometimes you get a little to caught up in your statistics. I understand that a lot of times it helps to look at it, and in some cases it even proves your point. However, sometimes, it just serves as a guideline. In this case I was merely trying to show you that the percentages you posted weren't necessarily "failing" in this certain instance.

Excellent use of slap dick on the OM board.

A very under utilized word now-a-days.

I said it on Elite, but think it bears repeating here....

I think the best use of Mitchell is on about a 20 pitch count situationally out of the pen on Friday -- and starting on Sunday. Basically, the Stephen Head role, just not as a closer. That's how we get max production out of Mitchell IMO.

The problem is finding a reliable Friday starter. Not sure who I'd try at this point. I don't think I would touch the Fitts/Lindgren/Holder situation for Saturday. Just got to find someone who gives us a chance on Fridays -- which really doesn't exist for us without Woodruff against these elite teams we've got coming up...

I'm done with Woodruff until he can prove in a few midweek games that he is capable.

The reason we have been losing games, IMO, is getting in a hole in the first inning and he has been pretty awesome at doing just that.

I'm with you there. I just don't think we've got anyone else with the "stuff" to be really capable of matching up with most Friday night starters around the league.

Largely agreed.

Disagree. Lindgren has the stuff to go toe to toe with anyone in the league. Could he do it for 5 plus innings? I'd really like to find out.

Yeah Lindgren is a first round talent. He definitely has the stuff to compete.

So all we know right now is that it is Fitts and Mitchell?

I would guess that Brown is going to get a shot in the weekend rotation now.

Also I am hoping we try to bait Vandy hitters into trying and hit it out. They don't have a lot of power and I think we should try and go after them like UCLA did against teams in Omaha.
