He's not questioning those teams' ability to compete in the revised classifications though, is he?
Tells me that the private school kids must get better coaching for the most part...

I can't agree with that. I played private school, and I coach in public school. Coaching is equally bad in both.

The best coaching is at the large 6A schools like Petal, Oak Grove, Madison Central, Northwest Rankin, Ocean Springs, Tupelo, Olive Branch etc

That's necessarily true. I would put David King, Herbert Davis, Bill Hurst, Forrest Williams, Billy Wayne Hankins, and Ricky Black up against about any coach in the state public or private.
Eta: and I'm sure there is some good coaching and smaller publics too. I'm just not sure of some names.

uhhhhh, no
Are there good coaches there? Absolutely, but the private schools have some just as good or better. Hell, in my 2 years as a head football coach in private schools I got 3 wins over former MHSAA coaches in the Mississippi HOF.
As someone who coached in both leagues, I had to coach harder in private school ball to make sure everybody was more fundamentally sound and knew what they were doing. In public school ball, too many times you can get away with just giving the ball to your best athlete and watch him go.

280 according to this
MRA would compete for the state championship every year in the 2A MHSAA league

I agree, I just want to know why in 2012 we need two different leagues? I am 100% for combining the MPSA and MHSAA. Two MPSA schools made the switch recently in University Christian and Tupelo Prep and there has been talk about PCS doing the same due to travel.
I know this will never happen due to the powers that be at Prep and JA, but it would make for interesting football.

I agree with this 100% and have been saying it for years.
However the big wigs at JA and Prep wont let this happen b/c they think it will mean fewer championships which IMO is true, but they will still win some championsihps in x-country, golf, tennis, swimming, track, etc... Heck schools like MRA could win state in Basketball, Prep in 4A football.
I think that JA likely has the most to lose IMO.

I wish they had combined a long time ago.

Louisiana has done it for decades and our private schools do just fine.

Louisiana is the opposite- alot of the private schools in La are better than the public schools. Its more about winning than race in La

I agree with this to an extent. I do think that if we combined you would see a combining though with the people who could afford the private school fee.

If the MPSA and MHSAA combined you would see a lot of transfers especially to the Jackson area.
The new head football coach at MRA is taking a page from the longtime MRA basketball ciach's book.
MRA beats prep and JA this year I'm calling it.
