Just wanted to drop a quick note thanking y'all for the access to your board. When Mizzou announced they were leaving the Big 12 for the SEC there was understandably a ton of discussion and excitement about football. While I shared in that, I was equally excited about being in a basketball conference with a true blue blood of the sport.

Personally, I hope the day comes when the SEC is taken just as serious in basketball as it is in football and in order to do that yes, the other schools will have to pick up their game (Mizzou included) but it will have to be led by UK along with UF.

Anyways, thanks again for allowing me to post here on your board. I'll give it the same respect I would hope to see from others on our board.

Welcome! Always glad to have BB fans, and I do think adding Mizzou helps the SEC, especially in basketball status.

Thanks Belle, Me too. In the meantime, though, we still have 11/9 coming up. Looking forward to the football game as well. I really think Stoops has things heading in the right direction. I'm not sure where you pulled your football recruits from before but he's hitting Ohio hard. A lot of talent in that state and he's doing a great job of pulling recruits out of there.

On the basketball front, if I could just ask one small favor. Can UK bow out of the Jayson Tatum race early? I'd like to see Mizzou get a top player out of St. Louis just once. There's a long way to go with Tatum and I suspect it won't be much different than Booker this year. Mizzou will probably be in the picture most of the way but much of the buzz will be about other schools such as UK and others.

Many thanks. I'd like to think so too, overall at least. I think one of the misconceptions many of the other schools had of Mizzou going in was that we are a basketball school. We're not. We are more than respectable in basketball, but I would not consider us a basketball school. Having said that, I do think historically and under Haith as well, that Mizzou will help prop up the SEC in BB. It's going to be something else to see UK coming to COMO this year. I certainly understand it's a bigger deal probably for Mizzou fans than UK fans, but that won't lessen what it means to Mizzou fans. Looking forward to it.

No problem. I think you and semo are the best of the active Tiger folks and seem the most level headed. Always good to have folks that follow basketball. Can not remember if you follow both sides but women's team for the Tigers last year could hit the 3 but I can not remember who graduated and who returned.

Lost 1 or 2 but one of them was our top scorer, though not our top 3 point shooter.

I've only casually at best watched the woman's game. Historically, how has UK been? I presume not the powerhouse the men's team has been but do they rank up there?

That was the beast. I was watching the Auburn game where Mizzou set the SEC 3 point record. Auburn had that small point guard who kept Auburn in the game or Missouri would have blown it out.

In the very beginning they were a top SEC team but they did not give Pat the extra 100 bucks to move so she did not take the UK job and took the UT job instead. Like the OBC not getting the UK job - UK got pounded for years for missing that coaching hire. About a decade ago UK said enough was enough and raided UT for their new staff (including Mickie DeMoss and current head coach Matthew Mitchell) and the UK team has been on an upward move since.

In 4 years Mickie took the Cats to 3 postseasons including a Final Four in the WNIT and a run in the NCAA. She was followed by her assistant Matthew Mitchell (who also was on the Vols staff) and it has been pretty solid since.

In 6 years at UK MM has been named SEC CoY twice and compiled the following record :

2007-08 Kentucky 17-16 WNIT Quarterfinals
2008–09 Kentucky 16-16 WNIT 2nd Round
2009–10 Kentucky 28-08 NCAA Elite Eight
2010-11 Kentucky 25-09 NCAA 2nd Round
2011-12 Kentucky 28-07 NCAA Elite Eight
2012-13 Kentucky 30-06 NCAA Elite Eight

UK has finished 1st or 2nd in the SEC the past 4 years and keeps getting sent to play Uconn @ Uconn for a ticket to the Final Four. So far they have not gotten over that hump but this year UK will be loaded with possibly their best team ever. The UK men's team shows up at the women's games and have done so since Tubby Smith was at UK so they have the support even tho they do not have the history.

SEC east is historically tough and these are the SEC schools in the preseason Top 25.

3. Tennessee
6. Kentucky
13. Texas A&M
16. LSU
22. Vanderbilt

South Carolina and Georgia may also break the Top 25 by the end of the season. Historically the SEC has been the strongest conference in Final Four play. In the history of the NCAA Final Four 8 of 14 SEC teams have made at least 1 Final Four. The SEC has accounted for 35 Final Four teams and 9 National Championships.

Non conference this fall UK will play
#2 Duke
#8 Louisville
#12 Baylor
