I like this guy. Shot down Alan Cutler real quick. Said we will run a offense we can be proud of.
Reiterates he is a defensive guy, wants them to be tough and physical, and you can't win without defense.
Offense will have a plan, be creative. Says he has his coordinators "targeted".

Says he was drew in by the BBN! Feels good about UK. Says we have everything we need to be successful.

Couch was instrumental, including interviewing him. Barnhart says there is a plan for some facilities improvements, but no details.

Interviewed initially 3 weeks ago. Recruiting and developing players is the key. He's a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Wants consistency from his players.

Biggest challenge in his mind is the SEC and being physical. Develop strength in players, recruit daily to build the program.

Recruiting emphasis is Kentucky/Ohio- strong ties in Ohio/Carolina's/Georgia and Florida.

Facilities plans are not new, but renewed emphasis on moving forward with funding and the legislature.

Keep any current assistants? Yes, he is considering some of the current assistants for jobs.

Defense will be 4-3. Clear plan for defense in his mind.

Message to current players - look forward to next year. Work hard, train hard, do things right. Players will be accountable and dependable. They will enjoy playing for UK, and will hold their heads high on campus.

Current recruits - make sure they fit his system. Evaluate each one.

Reaction at airport/Nutter Center - said it was exciting, looking forward to working at UK, anxious to get going. Knows it's a challenge and is embracing it.

No HC experience - Understands that is a concern. Been successful every where he has been. Not worried about that.

No staff to name today.

Talked some to Coach Cal a couple of times. He will embrace the basketball tradition with regards to recruting.

He reached out to UK first. Excited for the opportunity. Has a vision to move UK to winning status. Will take fans/admin/coaches/players to win. All together to win.

He thinks he is a player's coach. He finds different ways to motivate players, they all need to be coached differently.

Level of success for UK - to play in the SEC championship game and win it.

Not many SEC caliber players in Kentucky, but he enjoys developing players. Wants to keep the good ones home.

5 year contract, $11 million over 5 years. Incentives involved. Contract shows he is wanted here. Staff hires will not be an issue financially.

First impression of BBN - fantastic. saw the city from a flyover. Heard great things about UK/Lexington. Looking forward to being part of the community.

Will not coach FSU in bowl. Too much work to be done here. Accepted the job Monday evening. He works for UK now, this is where he wants to be.
Will try to help FSU if he can, especially if they play Louisville!

Not many ties to UK/Kentucky previously. Looking forward to hitting the ground running.

Coached under his father, Hayden Fry, USF under Jim Leavitt, Wyoming, his brothers, and last 3 years under Jimbo at FSU.

No evaluation of current roster. Will start evaluation of players tomorrow morning.

UK/UL rivalry. Good rivalry, looking forward to coaching in a rivalry game. Had great success in rivalry games.

Just showed some of the current players at the press conference. Press conference is over.

I watched. Confident guy. Players like him already.

This is the most excited I've seen Kentucky football fans in a long time.

Tim Couch wants Neal Brown as an OC. That would be interesting.

The last rumor I saw had Coley coming with him from FSU as OC. Either one would be fine with me. I like what I heard. It was obvious he was a bit nervous, but he handled it well.

Some contract details:

The University of Kentucky's new head football coach, Mark Stoops, will receive a base salary of $11 million over the five years of his contract, UK announced Sunday.

The contract also includes incentive bonuses that would push Stoops' pay higher for success in the Southeastern Conference and bowl games.

For instance, after Stoops wins one SEC game, he will get a $100,000 bonus for each subsequent SEC win in a season, the contract says.

Also, if UK wins the SEC championship or takes part in the Bowl Championship Series, Stoops will get an additional $200,000.

I hope that Coley comes with him to UK. I think he is a better recruiter than Neal Brown.

Neal also runs the Tony Franklin offense and I do not want that at UK.

I had heard that Coley was coming with him, but he wouldn't say anything today about his staff or FSU staff. Makes me think it's true. I've also heard Coley is the ace recruiter of the FSU staff, so I say rock on!

I've spent the last few days looking for information on who his staff would be. I know what everyone perceives Kentucky to be but I love the fact that Stoops came in and said that his #1 goal was to get to Atlanta and win. If he can start pulling the recruits to compete against the east than we will have a shot at Atlanta.

If James Franklin can pull in 4* athletes to Vanderbilt and Stanford can do what they have done than I know Stoops can do that at Kentucky.

I agree. He did say he would talk to members of the current staff, and did not rule out the possibility of some of them staying on.
My guess is that would only be one or two, maybe Mike Summers....
