I will be moving to Florida or south Georgia by the end of the year. I grew up and still live in a small town and like that kind of environment but want big city access. What are the nicer towns in Florida I should look at to relocate. Fishing(saltwater) is a big hobby so I don't think I can go wrong. Just need advice on maybe up and coming small towns in Florida. Since I will be working the whole state AND south Georgia it makes sense to be centrally located. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I grew up in south Georgia less than an hour from Tallahassee and it's a pretty nice place.

You like it there? Does that town even have a gas station?

Well outside Uniontown. Its a dump but growing up on 4,000 acres a property with the best hunting and fishing around never sucked. I hate traffic and Orlando and Tampa are out of the question. Maybe 30-40 miles outside either would probably be great. I'll take it to the OT but won't get many responses.

Honestly, most cities in Florida suck. Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville are all bad. Never been to Miami but I don't think I'd ever want to live there either.

If there even is such a thing as a "Florida native", good luck finding them amongst the guido yankee transplants...........

You're screwed. Florida is ruined. Get a different job.

Ocala.

An hour and a half away from Orlando and Tampa. 2 hours from Jacksonville. 40 minutes from Gainesville and Daytona. 40 minutes from the Gulf Coast. Plenty of springs/lakes/rivers.

Well, you've gotten a bunch of the typical BS responses so that's covered.

Most sales folks that cover the entire state live in Orlando or Tampa. They are both good spots to live. However, obviously Orlando is out if you want fishing.

You are left with Jax and Tampa. I've lived in both and currently live in Jax. I wouldn't mind going back to Tampa if I had to do so.

Jax is your best bet for what you are looking for.

email me at road0taken@gmail.com if you want more info and decent advice from a non-dick face.

For me It'd be somewhere off of I-95 between prolly Jax & Daytona... Maybe a lil further down toward Merritt Island. It would depend on how much travel you have to do in S. Ga....

Since you mention salt water fishing...its either east or west coast of Fla...you dont specify how much time is spent in south Ga...or if you like off or near fishing or just fishing inside for redfish/trout etc...if trout/redfish are what you are after...then Gulf coast or mid Atlantic are good spots. If you spend a lot of time in mid to south Fla then Tampa Bay area is the place...its where I live and its got everything.

Jacksonville. Somewhere between there and Daytona on 95 would be nice.

Some suggestions (all in the penisula):

Merritt Island, FL (and especially the south end) - you can thank me later.

Cedar Key (located on the Gulf at the big bend) - great fishing but not too much else the last time I was there.

St. Augustine (between Daytona and JAX) - has real history
